As I said, in a SHTF situation, a man walking with the help of a cane is going to attract unwanted attention from thugs. A man on crutches would make an even more tempting target. I do not recommend it.

Why, a good cane is more than sufficient, dear boy.

In a SHTF situation, pepper spray will be worse. Never use a cane or pepper spray when people are using guns.

Pepper spray can be effective, but I would not count on it. To each his own.
I saw a similar video. The guy was drugged & drunk in a bar and the establishment couldn't get rid of him. Then came the police. They kept pepper spraying the guy in a booth and he'd just shake his head and snarl. He then went back to drinking his mug of now pepper spray infused beer. In the end they had to jump him, and he had supper human druggy strength.

As you said in another post, walk with a heavy fighting cane ... and pepper spray. I use that combo when I go into NJ, although you are a criminal if you carry more than .25oz of spray in that socialist POS state.

In a SHTF situation I WILL be carrying a .45 and an AK-47 wire folder. In the real world of today, my CC license isn't recognized in the socialist controlled zones of our country and I can't conceal carry that .45 . . . so a brass fighting cane works very well in those places. If that makes me a "tempting" target, then game on for some attitude adjusting fun. . And yes, your Uncle Lono can take care of himself. Some people say I have an attitude problem. I say fock'em.

Situational awareness. Don't let cellphone, PDA, Walkman, radio, or gaming device distract you on foot or public transport, too.

Yes it is. Made the mistake of picking one up bare handed in sub-freezing weather once.

To Jerry,

Minor nit pick, there is no such thing as less-than-lethal. I'll agree to less lethal. People have died by tazer/pepper spray/bean bags/ect/so on/and so forth.
