I am happy for you, but you are an exception to the rule. ... Most people get the flu if exposed to the virus.

But, I think you are smart enough to know this, unless you are a "flat earth" believer.

Most people who say that it gives them the flu are just wrong.

The flu is not a cold . I had the flu when I was 21 and almost died. I was hospitalized for three days.

In 1918 the Flu killed more people that WWI.

You don't want the flu.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

My grandmother had eleven brothers and sisters on the day in 1918 when the flu came to our little southern town. (Historians are convinced today it was carried by U.S. mail carriers/Postal workers that brought the mail personally from town to town.) ... Within 3 days they were all dead except for her father, a sister a brother and her. ... Her father was out of town on business, and the rest lived in the county and were not exposed to anyone for two weeks. By then it was over.

This "Spanish Flu" strain killed 3% of the world, more people than all the soldiers killed in WWI. ... If the world had mass transportation then as it does now, the numbers undoubtedly would have been greater.

Every year, the flu mutates. Some years it kills more. Some years it kills less.

You may not have gotten it yet, and may never get it, but you are the exception to the rule.

American workers and businesses lose billions of dollars a year because of the flu/influenza. Children and the elderly tend to die the most from it each year.

I feel sorry for people who use anecdotal personal stories instead of time-proven science as an excuse for not getting this shot.

Ignorance abounds. America and western civilization is dumbing down.

The wise folk have always said down through history, "It is better to be safe than sorry."

Much to the chagrin of many in my family and friend circles, (doctors included), I've found that statistically when I've had the shot in the last 30 years, I will catch the disease quicker, and have longer recovery.

I can't explain it, and I can't document with science, only say that statistically that is me.

However, one should always remember that humans are not like parts rolling off a GM part line. Each person has their own unique reactions to any drug or inoculation. We're all unique in the fact that a broad brush can't always be the solution to a problem society faces.

Do we dare open the anti-vax can of worms?

The smallpox vaccine shot along with the polio shot worked, but not the flu shot huh? ... Please provide information/online links where the AMA or a group of doctors are saying the flu shot did not work for them. I really want to see this scientific information. It could change my mind.

I sincerely wish you and the ones you love much luck in the future as the flu virus mutates each year.

I got my shot two nights ago since I was already in CVS Pharmacy on another matter. I have had the flu shots every year for about the last 20 and have had the flu only once. I have a lot of contact with people, even nowadays in my retirement.

Already got mine. I seem to always get the flu, but years I do not get the shot it is a lot worse Temps 102 vs 104.

A penny for my thoughts (deflation) I believe some are more susceptible to the virus. I'm not sure if there is any benefit for someone who's never had the flu in getting the vaccine, and depletes the supply for those who need it...

Several years ago I went from flu to pnumonia 3 years in a row. I started taking the flu shot, now I only get a cold maybe once in winter. They work for me. Now, I also take the pneumonia shot once every five years.

I don't keep good records on trivia.

I got the shots regularly for a long time. The last year I actually got 3 flu shots. The pig flu was the big scare, I had already gotten the normal trivalent flu shot.
Went to a CVS and asked for the pig flu shot (It was in short supply at that time, so I saw their sign said they had it). They screwed up and gave me the regular shot again. I noticed their error and then they gave me the pig shot.

My god the spell checker on this site is intolerable!

blah blah blah...obviously you can't read. He said he didn't have scientific evidence. Good for you if you take the shot, no one cares about changing your mind.

I get my flu shot every year. Have not had the flu since taking the shots. Before the shots, I got it every year. I know there is an anti vaccination crowd, and there are people that believe the earth is flat. We can't fix stupid. Don't allow primitive superstition and ignorance to harm your children or loved ones. As stated above, we have beat this horse to death and since we cannot fix stupid, it is time to move on.

Just read that myself Mere Man.

I don't get them myself and haven't for 20+ years. I've never had the flu since I was a youngster but I try not to put hands to my face and use hand sanitizer liberally with door touching, etc.

From the linked article:

"Given the possibility that a couple of the components of the vaccine might not be well-matched to circulating flu viruses, Skowronski said it will be important for doctors to realize vaccinated patients may still contract influenza. For those who are at high risk of developing severe illness, rapid treatment with flu antiviral drugs should be considered.

She also suggested older people or people who have underlying health problems — in other words, those who are likely to develop a severe case of flu if they contract the virus — should take steps to avoid being around sick people.

The sliver of good news: The officials meeting at the WHO last week concluded that the H1N1 and the flu B/Yamagata components of the Southern Hemisphere vaccine didn’t need to change, suggesting they are representative of the strains of those viruses we’re likely to encounter this winter."

We will have to wait and see, as always.
Admittedly a crap-shoot every year
Last year better than 1/3 effective
Good enough for me
