Default ICOM M85 radios

Advertise Here

I am looking at the ICOM M85 radios as a higher-end Baofeng. I really like the waterproof rating, including with the external mic attached.

I want to be able to use these for quick comms in an area that might be effected by a hurricane or flood or just out skiing.

Looking for a Baofeng-like radio and that has the assortment of the accessories that is also waterproof or highly water-resistant.

Any feedback?

a) Welcome...

b) Those are "good" radios - for what they're "for", but get much wider bandwidth / flexibility out of something like a Yaesu FT-70 (can-recommend the FT-70DR, personally..) which is IP-54 (iirc..) so.. Not 'bad' for general-use unless yer gonna be on a Shrimper.. You can also get 'water-proof pouches', with flap-protected ports for ext. mic / Antenna, etc..

c) Excellent user-name choice.. Power to the Dozer-People...

Thank you for your response.

I just read up on the FD-70DR. So it does look like I went a little overkill with the M85. I was trying to find the best option without having to jump up to a licensed HAM.

One thing I really hate it the semi-rigid rubber ducky antenna that ships with the M85. I have not been able to find after-market options for this. Have you found any accessories for your 70DR that are worth while?

Thanks for the props on the user name. Not bad for my second post and already someone got it. KILLDOZER LIVES MATTER!
