Default Where to buy AR kits?

Advertise Here

Hello everyone, I am looking at building my very first AR. I've got a Spikes Tactical stripped lower to build on. I have been looking at several places to order an AR parts kit from. Some are Model1Sales, Del-Ton, AR Kits.com, and a couple others.

I've heard a lot of bad press concerning Model1Sales on the AR15.com forums having problems with credit card fraud. There have been numerous reports of poeple getting fraudulent charges to their cc after purchasing from Model1Sales from various companies to inclued Apple's MobileMe. Also, I've read that they're shipping times and dates are sketchy at best. That being said where can I find a good qaulity parts kit from a company that's going to have reliable shipping dates at a good price?

I ordered two AR15 uppers from Model 1 and about 5 months later I got one upper which didn't work right. So I sent it back. That was 4 months ago and haven't heard a word about that upper or the other one on order. So needless to say I wouldn't suggest dealing with Model 1. The funny thing is, they tell me these people always have stuff for sale at local guns shows.

Anyhow, I've heard nothing but positive things about Del-ton. You could also just piece the rest together your self. I mean the rest of the parts you need can be mailed straight to your door. Just order a lower parts kit, stock, and complete upper. If you do that I would strongly suggest a quality lower parts kit like from DPMS or RRA.

I suggest G&R Tactical for your LPK. Excellent quality and you can pick options.
I keep one on hand for spare parts.

Here is a kick-ass vendor for the AR platform Ritepath.... www.sogarmory.com
I use these folks as much as I can and I very highly recommend them. Very good folks who are helpful and quite knowledgeable too. They made a customer out of me the first time I visited their exhibit at a gunshow.

www.sogarmory.com These are the folks I patronize the most for the AR platform brother. Great and knowledgeable folks who will take care of you. Very dependable. I very highly recommend them. Check out the site and let me know what you think. I've never had a prob with them at all. Out of Houston at that!

Del Ton is a good path to take as well, complete kit is under $500. A friend of mine purchased one and had it within 2 weeks, so the turn around time is getting much better.

Default another question

Thanks for your comments. Del-Ton is starting to look very promising. Another question... Some of you may know this. I've only ever shot M-4's for duty, manufactured by Colt. What is the difference between an M-4 handguard and the "CAR" handguard option that Del-Ton offers?

The one thing to remember with a CC if anything is charged and you didnt do it you dont have to pay. I have read that there where some problems at model1 but hear it was QC problems but they have since been fixed.

Del-ton is great have not heard one bad thing about them.

I used a kit from www.akpartskit.com (AKA Black Thorn) and I really like my kit fit and finish is really good on it.

I bought a lower from Essential Arms and had the extra coat put on it and that has caused only one problem. The bolt release on my AR wont work as they both are coated parts and both are coated heavy. Im going to someday take the bolt release out and sand it down respray and put back in.

I know a lot of guys will chime in and tell you to stay away from them but I have had no problems with them and I got my kit in a week after placing the order on a friday. I have less then 650 in my AR.

I shot wolf and brown bear in it with no problems and the gun was dead on. I would buy from them again.

Oh one more note on the finish its better then my cousins Bushmaster and up there with his STAG finish as well. I would almost say it matches Stag.

Here is video of my kit the first day I shot after getting it checked by a gunsmith for my work and theirs. The camera broke the day I got to shoot so look over that.

This is a video of a review I did its not a great review but it is a review of what I thought about it.

I may do another review of it for youtube later on to talk a bit more as well and talk about a few other guns.

I have been looking at the del-ton kits but cannot figure out the difference in the lightweight 16" kit and the midweight-heavy barrel 16" kit. I assume the heavy barrel doesn;t heat up as fast? What is the difference and advantages of the different 16" kits. I have a stripped del-ton lower and after exhaustive shooping, I think del-ton offers the best bang for the buck, if I can just figure out which kit is for what.
