TOR browser is just FireFox with some security tweaks. If you use the TOR browser, you may as well browse onion sites from the Tails OS. Also, keep in mind, that too much security and you won't be able to get to several large sites (gmail, facebook, etc).

Do basic searches and browsing on your normal operating system using whatever browser you want. Anything secure should be run through VPN, and from a bootable Tails USB. That's where you want to use TOR. Encryption is a must and don't for a second think that it's even totally secure... but it's way beyond the average user. But something to consider, is that the ones that really know crazy computer stuff, are on the deep web. You're never really safe...
