Then don't.... this is how easy it is to pick potatoes without disturbing the rest. Remove the taters and afterward you can't even tell you were in there.

Exactly. You remove the board, pull some out and put the board back trying to disturb the rest of the contents as little as possible in the process.

Remember you aren't removing the entire bottom...

I grow reds and whites in both raised and flat beds. I plant them just before last frost and cover over with a thick, heavy layer of dry leaves to protect any new growth from the frost.
