This passed the NH Senate yesterday.

Keeping our fingers crossed! Be nice to see NH headed back in the "Right" direction.

If it can pass the Senate, it can pass the house. But will the gov veto it?

jeffsw 02-26-2015 11:14 PM

So where do those of you from NH think this is headed next?

Jef_NH 02-27-2015 08:10 AM

There are two bills. One in house. One in the senate. The general thought/hope is that the senate version will be the one that ends up getting sent to the governor. What happens then is anyone's guess. My guess is a veto and not enough votes to override.

The next most likely case is that the governor will just not sign it - for NH that means it will just become law without her signature (in some places not signing after a certain amount of time is a pocket veto as the default is that the legislation fails. in NH, the default is for it to pass ... usually..

The final possibility (I've never seen this happen) is that the default pass state only applies if the legislature is still in session. If they have adjourned for the year, then failing to sign is a pocket veto. We had a bit of a coup in the NH house this year so even though the house is substantially majority republican, the speaker was picked by the Democrats and he owes them a favor so perhaps he'll work to make sure the final legislation does not complete all of the required votes until the very end of the session.

No guessing involved. Hassan will veto. Unless they have the votes to override it's doomed. This state is going blue in the southern areas with the influx of Mass. Holes. Sorry to say.
Scott Brown couldn't even get elected here.

I totally agree with you

Though our liberal neighbor Vermont is turning bluer as time goes by, the gun grabbers are seeing push back.

The bill made it through committee process, next its up for vote in the house.

SB116 passed the house today. This incarnation of the bill came from the Senate, so now it's off to the governor's desk.

However according to this headline, "Hassan will veto". If so can we start a recall on Hassan?

Will the house-originating version of the bill get enough votes to override the veto? Apparently the Senate lacks the 2/3 majority to override Hassan's veto.

nightwolf1974 05-03-2015 10:38 PM

Got vetoed!!

texasbumpkin 05-03-2015 10:43 PM

Doesn't surprise me.

240Geezer 01-06-2016 07:22 PM

It's baaacckkk!

escape 01-07-2016 10:22 AM

House Bill 582 passed now heading to the Senate.

240Geezer 01-07-2016 04:08 PM

Where it will pass and then on to Hassan's desk where it will die yet again.
So sad.

As one of your neighbors to the east, I'd love to see this pass. Constitutional Carry in the three northern New England states would be great.

Good luck!!!

Jungleboy 01-07-2016 06:49 PM

It would be nice if it passed and they would honor Vermonters with the same right to CCW that we already enjoy here, so that there could be another State that I could visit.
I'd go do my shopping there since it is so close, but things as they are, I don't go to any other states for anything since I can't CCW.

Open carry is not prohibited in NH

Otherwise, you can pay for an non resident PRL license, $100 for 4 years (or think of it as $25 per year)

You'd probably make it back on all the sales taxes you'd save from paying by shopping across the river. Plus many NH FFLs are authorized to sell long-guns to Vermonters so you'd save on some sales tax there too.

I do love the cozy feeling every time I pass over the bridge into VT and know that I don't need a 'stinkin' permit.

I believe gun owners and pro-liberty types are going to work even harder to make this happen in the granite state this year. If the Mainers can make it happen so can New Hampshirites.
