Repeating radio signal

https://sputniknews.com/science/2020...dont-know-why/

We may have covered this but found this to be a good, short read.
What ever may be doing it is sending out fast radio bursts like clockwork in 16.35 day cycles, including 1-2 bursts per hour over a four day period and then 12 days of silence before starting up again.

So, could it be time to call Jodi Foster in?

Already a.thread for this

It it arrogant of humanity to assume the signal is intended for us. Earth may just happen to be close enough to the direct path from point a to point b for enough energy to be coincidentally be detected here.

What is a "radio signal"? Did we invent it? Do we own the rights?

The new FRB was tracked down to SDSS J015800.28+264253.0, a star-forming galaxy about 500 million light years from Earth.
It too 500 million years to get here. Whatever it's tryig to tell us is old news.

It said "there's a large asteroid headed for you guys should hit in about 450 million years from now, hope this reaches you in time!" :xeye:

Absolutely, when you think in linear terms.

puttster 02-10-2020 06:39 PM

Like the movie "On the Beach" or 2001: A Space Odyssey.

cleatis 02-11-2020 10:07 AM

What ever it is, I bet we will never know the truth. Might need to build me a big 'ol antenna again.

That does pose a good question. I know we have SETE and other things like it. But what if we could do our own eavesdropping on space????

It says:

Beverly Hillbillies and Mr. Ed reruns should be reaching exoplanets within 50 light years by now.

So there's that.

I'd like to see aliens show up wearing graytone 1950s clothing because they thought that's how Earthlings dress. :D:

Imagine if they made a Star Trek episode like that.

puttster 02-11-2020 10:32 PM

If they watch Tom & Jerry they are going to have a lot of questions.

cleatis 02-18-2020 10:36 AM

Wasn't there a TV show or B movie made about aliens coming here and they thought we were all Nazis cause of that broadcast Hitler made? Or am I dreaming that up and need to write it?

And most of the headlines say the signal is "aimed at Earth" or something similar. I just reread the article and yeah, "Sending Earth signals". No it isn't, or if it is that is totally unproven. Not only that if the signal is coming from where they think it is then it originated way before Jesus was born...

You might be thinking of an original series Star Trek episode called "Patterns of Force."

It's not quite the scenario you described, though. In that episode a Federation cultural observer imposed Nazism on a lawless planet because he thought it was the most efficient system of government.

Explainist 02-18-2020 07:16 PM

what they might be saying is "do you taste just like chicken?"

charliemeyer007 02-18-2020 08:08 PM

Intergalactic telemarketer, do you need your credit repaired?

Justme11 02-18-2020 08:11 PM

Trelaine, The Squire of Gothos, failed to take into consideration the time for the radio signal travel, so he greeted the Trek crew dressed like a retired general from the French Napoleonic era.
