Copyright Infringement Policy

~~ EDITED ~~ July 19, 2011

Do NOT copy anything from any other website unless you own or have rights to the material.

If you want to discuss an article on another site, do not copy the article - just post a link to the article.

If you want to cite an article on another site, do not copy and paste the article - just post a link.

Period.

This topic is not open for discussion, so this thread is closed.

We had another issue with copyright infringement.

I was notified by a member that there were several files in the downloads section that were copyright protected. These files had been published by a large publishing company. All of the files clearly had the copyright logo on the first couple of pages.

The files were removed from this server.

Member that uploaded the files got mad and said I could delete his account.

Member was banned instead.

If the file has "copyright <insert big company name here>" anywhere on it, do NOT upload it to this server.

Copyright infringement, dont do it and surely dont do it here.

Just so everyone has a point of reference for what the laws concerning copyrights in the digital age are...

Below is a pdf from the U.S. Copyright Office summarizing the laws concerning The Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998.

Yes and No.

Yes, it is ok - if the book is no longer copyright protected. Examples would be books that are in the public domain.

No, it is not ok - if the book is copyright protected. Examples include books printed since the 1920s,,,, or somewhere in there.

If the book is not in the public domain, and you do not own the rights to it - do not upload it here.

I have no claim to this book, or own any rights of it, Nor am I responsible with what you do with it.

All rights belong to XXXXXX

Is that alright?

Well, I received another DCMA takedown notice for something a member posted way back in 2008.

Just goes to show how these things can come back and bite you in the butt years later.

I will say this again - do not copy and post anything in this forum unless you own the material or have rights to the material.
