After the Mormons turned a swamp into a bustling city without government assistance, they called it Nauvoo.

When the Mormons fled Nauvoo at TPTB gunpoint, the French Icarian Socislists took their farms and buildings and turned the temple into a communial chow hall.

Years later Brigham Young writes a letter to the French socialist newspaper telling them: The Mormons have built over 350 cities out of raw land and sagebrush and you socialists could not even make one city work you took from Mormons.

If any group is prepared, organized to rebuild civilization without bankers, it will be Mormons.

If any group knows divine law and order better...let them establish the next thousand years of peace and prosperity.

Most Mormons you come across are not your stereotypical "preppers", they are just "prepared". You won't come across too many of the survivalist types, as most of the LDS people you come across tend to be more like old school farmers or Amish who look out for their own and their neighbors. Just plain old common sense, thrift, and saving for a rainy day.

Mormons aren't stereotypical preppers because they've been preppers for 150 years. The new generation of preppers will settle into it soon enough and be prepared rather than preparing as well.

Many religions that have an "end of times" component and tell their flock to be ready for it.

Difference is that while most religions tell everyone to be ready spiritually for the end of times, the Mormons also include a pragmatic component as well.

It's more of a wonder to me that there aren't more religions that preach this.
I think most other religions are more of "Yup the worlds ending now.... sit down and prepare to be sorted."

Most churches are branches or breakoffs of the Catholic mother tree trunk.

The Church Of Jesus Christ does not claim to be a Catholic Reformed breakoff but the only, original, restored.

They even claim to have written the Bible. Being the same church that wrote it from the beginning and.... It claims to know what is going on...no surprises.... and knows what to do about it.

God is up and doing up and.....

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Amos 3:7
God's church does not depend and operate on current news, interpretation, analysis, opinions, debate and research but on divine revelation.

God's church is not a democratic form of government.

It is more like a Monarchy or theocracy...

Not Mormon myself, but I have lived in enough areas with large Mormon populations to have learned a few things.

Like many have already stated, they believe in self reliance, not handouts. And being a religion that encourages large families, it makes sense to think ahead on how one plans on feeding many mouths for long duration's.

And those long duration's they were "prepping" for weren't always weather or financially related, but physical attacks on their community.
We could always pick out the homes built by Mormon's because they were made of brick and had small/minimal windows. Again, this goes back to the days of being outcasts, and needing as much security as possible against raids/attacks... so they built everything out of brick.
Don't believe me? Check out your local Church of JC and the Latter Day Saints and tell me what it's made of! ;)

Christians believe that Jesus will come back any second...............Mormons know he aint coming for them
Mormons have some pretty strange beliefs.

They believe that Christ came to the new world and taught some of the inhabitants of north America the same things he taught in Judea. They believe they have a translated record of these teachings and a history of these people living in America before columbus.

The are not waiting for Christ's return because they think he has already been here.

Well, hopefully you know more about prepping and survivalism than you know about Mormonism. :)

The most important thing to remember in this forum and this thread is that it's awfully nice of the LDS Church to sell their storage supplies to even those who disparage them. Knowing that they have that survivalist mentality while you cannot get these kinds of supplies from the Lutherans, the Catholics, the Baptists, the Muslims, or most atheists, should make you curious enough to find out who they really are and what they really believe and why - just so you know your benefactor.

I know that I was just being a smart ass.....sorry LDS...I sometimes go overboard....actually as long as Mormons don't talk about Religion they are some nice people....and I have great respect for their prepping habits

They encourage members to have a store of supplies for 7 years, so that makes sense.

Early colonials usually spent their spring, summer, and fall planting, gathering harvesting, and putting up supplies for the winter to last until the next season of planting, gathering and harvesting.

Therefore it is normal to "prep" It just wasn't always called that.
I can't say I feel 7 years is neccessary, but I ain't knockin 'em. At least they ain't gonna come knocking on my door if times get tough.
As a mormon, the 7 years is a long time. Realistically it's really more like 1 year but we know how people are if you say 1 year most will only have one month, but say 7 years and most people will have at least 1 year [emoji41]

Really though?.... I find it amusing that "christians" seem to be the first ones to hurl the insults.
And Mormons are Christians. But don't take my word for it. Next time any of you are at the LDS cannery or storage centers picking up your preps, just ask one of the folks there. They can probably point you in the direction of accurate information. Not suggesting you should convert, only that you might find it interesting to get the facts rather than the rumor and to know why it is that Mormons are preppers.
