Has many ladies out there survived breast cancer? I have just recently had a biopsy and it came back good but now I am having problems. My regular doc can't find a reason for what is going on Now it is a wait till you can get in to have another mammo. This is nerve racking.

Never survived breast cancer myself, but I have watched a few go through it.

First -- Big hugs and lots of support.

Next -- Quiet your mind. Don't start making assumptions until you know what's going on.

After -- Once you find out what's going on, stay calm.

Finally -- One step at a time, one day at a time.

I know it all sounds so simple, and so trite. But, really, what can you do? Be strong and keep a level head, keep the positive thoughts racing, and hope for the best.

I'm sorry you're going through all this stress hun.

I watched two very close people in my life go through this.

Be knowledgeable. Research everything you can on it. Take a close family member or friend with you on your appointments. Keep a notebook, write down your questions before you go so you won't forget to ask while you're there and write down the answers. Know your options for treatment. If your don't know your options, you don't have any. Ask about alternative treatments. Don't be afraid to fire your doctor and get a new one. Forget about loyalty to him, it's not about him, it's about YOU.

One other thing is to take care of yourself right now. Make sure you get plenty of rest. Now might be a good time to assess your diet and lifestyle. Figure out if you need to make healthier choices. Be proactive and positive.

I'm a breast cancer survivor. It's been a year since diagnosis (surgery, chemo and rads this year). If your biopsy came back ok...what's going on that is making doc question and wanting another mammogram? You can answer here or pm if needed - I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Also...as Belladonna said...start a notebook and write down EVERYTHING....every date, appointment, what the appt is for, what the procedure/diagnosis was, conversation, who the conversation was with...everything! This one thing kept me from have mulitple test (same tests) on same lumps, kept me from having procedure already done (doc/nurses were impressed with me book!)(even if they didn't like me questioning every thing they did)

This was my motto (I'm a Christian):
Why Me?
If I believe in a creator...the Creator of this world...then I must believe that He is greater than I and knows everything and He has a purpose for me that I may not understand.
If I don't believe in the Creator...why not me?
(I picked the short straw.)

Well I had my biopsy done in May. Now all of a sudden it has started swell for no reason. My regular ob/gyn can't find anything wrong other than the swelling. The lumps still feel the same but I now have an extra 2 lbs of weight on one side. I go in Friday the 7th for new mammo but my doc said it still may not tell me anything. It is swelling to the point of putting my hand to sleep. It feels like I am caring around a rolled up towel under my arm (every once in a while it feels like I have a walnut there with it). It doesn't really hurt other than being uncomfortable. It just doesn't make sense to me. My mom died of lung cancer after they kept tell her she had walking pneumonia for a year. It just scares me that they don't even know what is going on. Thanks for all of the support.

I would recommend you get a second opinion from an oncologist. I would take ALL of your films, not just the most recent, and go to a hospital in the "big city" or one that specializes in cancer treatment. If you are at what some of us term "dirt and sand" areas, you really need a fresh opinion from a specialist/ preferably an oncologist. Also, try to have your x-rays done at the same facility, and if you can't make sure that the doctors (radiologists and your current doctor have compared all of your films.)

I worked for a medical malpractice insurer for many years, and you have to walk a delicate line between being a PITA and assertively involved in your own care, but its your life.

NEVER assume, doctors or radiologists are on top of things. It is extremely difficult to be. You must be on top of making sure everyone is getting and reviewing the films and reports.

But seriously, it could be a lot of things. What are your blood tests coming back as? Anything weird there? Also, again, don't be too paranoid, but look at your family history and get the other areas tested. If you are a smoker, then getting a CT of your chest is a no brainer.

Good luck-- If you are in the PA/NJ/NY area I can definitely recommend someone specific.

Quite frankly from the scant description listed in sounds like you have a cyst or an abscess and you are draining fluid into somewhere, but thats a very loose opinion based on reviewing med records over the year as part of my job. Perhaps get an ultrasound of the area too, if posible. Couldn't hurt.

I have no idea as to what you're going through. Just know that I am hugging you extra-hard across the cyber-miles tonight. Good luck!

Yeah, don't be affraid to go get a second or third opinion if a doctor is boggled.

I hate to say this but there are quite a few very poor doctors I and family members have run into over the years.

If they are not getting you timely answer's, find someone who will.
