I live in the south and it gets hot down here. A baseball cap doesn't work as my ears get sun burned so I am looking for a boonie style or something like it. I don't want to spend big bucks for something that is going to get cramed into my B.O.B. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ebay is the best place Iv found for hats, scarves etc - I dont have hair so I have quite a few. Im in the Uk, so I dont know what the US Ebay is like.

Make sure you know your measurements, as they do the right sizes as well. There is nothing worse then a tight hat to bring on headaches and the like.

I just came from eBay Bear and bought one. :) I used Mr. Beef's post as a price gauge and found one in that range.

Thanks Fishlore. I stumbled upon the series by accident and became a big fan. This may be foolish but I'm still hoping they'll do another movie or crank up the series again.

Thanks everyone. Good to see you again Anchorbanger. Yes, I should have used my google-fu to find one but I wanted to tap into SF's knowledge base and perhaps find one for a reasonable price.

As for joining the military, I'm afraid I'm past their age requirement. :)

My favorite style of hat for being out in the sun is one of the hats with the "curtain" that covers your neck and ears. The type made from the very lightweight material. They crunch up and uncrunch and look the same after.

The ones at the links above are nice ones.

You can get inexpensive knockoffs ($10-$15) of that style hat that function just fine. Discount retailers or even fleamarkets have them. I have a middle of the road one (about $25). Mrs Cricket has a middle of the road one. Love em!

My second favorite for a sun hat is actually a very large brimmed and stiff, straw hat with a 4" lined brim. Hard to find a really good one for under $20.

Couple of places online: soldier city dot com, bdu dot com, not all boonies are water resistant, ripstop, etc.
I got my first one at a local place (who doesn't sell them anymore), a mil-spec boonie, I've worn the bag outta this thing at work outdoors days, nights, all seasons, for about two years now, almost exclusively except for really cold windy shifts. It's fading, but keeps the sun off the ears and neck and out of the eyes wherever the sun may be. I like it for day to day wear for the same reasons--keeps the sun out of the eyes when driving, headlights, etc.
Outdoor stores, Cabelas, REI, EMS, NRS, Campmor, have them, but they are not really boonie hats I think, just fancy waterproof hats with a 360 degree brim, and not in camo. I don't think they'd take the wear and tear and dirt a boonie could withstand.
