True dat. Not particularly good mounted on a revolver anyways because it's difficult to control the power switch and a pressure pad throws a wire into the mix. TR and S&W messed up on that one. Much better off with a hand held light.

Does anyone know of a revolver besides the trr8 that has a rail or can attach a light some how, and doesn't cost $1000.
Any wheelgun with a 4"+ barrel and an underlug can have a light mount added with little work.

Brownells sells a mount that can be easily adapted by a machinist or gunsmith.

It's not as bad as some make it out to be, especially for a static defense gun (i.e. Bedroom).

Much like the older H&K USP lights, you just have to get used to running a light on the whole time, not exactly "tactical" but still effective.

If I'm defending my bedroom I leave a regular flashlight laying on the bed, facing the door, while I'm kneeling at the other end of the bed. Hopefully someone will take a shot at it and be confused about where I'm at.

Can't help you on finding a so called 'tactical' revolver....my tastes run more toward more traditional styling, though I will say that carrying a light separate from the gun can be made to work pretty well. Learn to point shoot one handed, if you can, and carry the light in the other hand, well away from your body. That's the old FBI technique and the one that I train to use.

I'm not a fan of the term "tactical", and like another poster has already said it's an over used word.

Try removing tactical in front of the word revolver, and instead replace it with combat. To me the term combat revolver makes much more sense. :thumb:

Here's a good article about the combat revolver: http://www.snubnose.info/docs/revolver_ccw.htm

It is my understanding that this particular model S&W revolver came about subsequent to a special order from a large municipal P.D.

The P.D. wanted a "Shield Gun" for their swat teams. Autos can often be put out of commission when used with a shield and the auto inadvertently comes in contact, slowing the slide and jamming the gun.
Their specs were for a large capacity .357 with a light rail. This gave the Shield man eight rounds, without the worry of a slide stoppage as well as being able to mount a light, laser or both. They are comfortable and well balanced, though I have yet had the chance to actually shoot one. Should make a fine home defense gun...
