Back in Jan I’m walking out to the car to go swim and I slip on wet grass..most folks their feet would flip up and they bust their butts..soft ground, Im good..But wait..I gotta do some kind of twist/flip thingee🙈in mid-air( how I wish the cameras pointed at that area-it must have been majestic)and sort of torqued the leg I had knee replacement on year and a half ago…I hear a pop..my (new) knee hurt and I’m thinking oh snap…I just popped that knee…wasn’t the knee…never had much ankle issue..mines always been that knee…
So I’m up for surgery but it’s evident Optional?😳
Doc says MRI can’t see all the damage..I can put a boot on it and see🤔
Noooo…lets fix this thing…he goes in, says we did right, I had ligament damage w cartilage pieces loose floating around..all sorts of stuff…so wife’s boss says” you’ll never wear cowboy boots again”( I like them, he had the surgery and it messed him up..I have issues w my boots now if I walk a lot)..also nurse says ”it’s gonna hurt and swell off and on for a year or more”( it did and continues to)
Anyone w ankle surgery or broken bones in there have same/similar issues ?🤔

Forest, sorry to hear about that. I wish you a speedy recovery. Last year I was in the hospital for two months with a bone infection in my knee. Lost most of the cartilage. It's taken me until now to walk with just a cane and ditch the crutches. Knee replacement is coming at some point. They did some surgery while I was in though so I have the scar and occasional pain. All I take for pain now is aspirin and occasionally Advil. Biofreeze roll on has been a tremendous help. It works on any area, especially joints. Hang in there.

Me, no. My Dad, yes. Busted one ankle, 3 places. Left foot slipped on ice, he went straight down, all 300# landed on the right foot. Maybe it was right slip? Anyways...That was pre-1979.

Dad always, always wore cowboy boots. Even when he wore swim trunks (rarely), he wore cowboy boots. After breaking his ankle, he eventually went back to only wearing cowboy boots but it cost him double the money.

Size 10.5 for one foot, size 11.5 for the other foot. Western stores didn't like breaking up the pairs so Dad either had to buy 2 pairs, or none. He bought 2 pairs.

Mom bought flipped when he started buying exotic boots!!!! X2

His last several yrs I think he was back to one pair. He passed 2013 for reference.

Oldest German Shepherd "See that Pup, what Dad just did?"
Young German Shepherd " Yeah. Does he always fall down like that?"
Oldest German Shepherd "No, but let that be a lesson to you."
Young German Shepherd "Whats that?"
Oldest German Shepherd "Always walk on all fours."

Glad your doing better, Forrestt. Just don't rush into anything even if it has been several months.

I have a left one exactly like that but with two more long screws on the other side also. Yamaha YZ 490 slipped in water just doing 15 mph in the neighborhood on my corner......fell over so fast I never got my foot off the peg and the engine case smashed both ankle knobs against the asphalt. Ill see if I can find the pic when I get off work.
All I can say is , dont lose your range of motion. Start stretching it now.

Roughly ten years ago I was working at a machine shop, nothing new I've been in machine shops since 1975, but this time about three months after going to work there I got cellulitis in my right calf. It was fine one day, that night I woke up with a 103* fever and a swelled you leg! I had never had it before! After a couple of days off and ten day of antibiotics all is good...for a while... About two months later cellulitis comes back in the same calf, another couple of days off and ten more days of antibiotics. I was at the job for ~ a year and a half at that job I had cellulitis every couple of months for a total of about eight times (LOL memory?) before I quit that job and went to a different machine shop, closer to home. What's got both me and my DR puzzled is even though nothing seemed different than any other machine shop I've worked at over the years I haven't had cellulitis since leaving there. But because of the cellulitis I have a lot of trouble with swelling in my right leg to the knee to the point if I don't wear compression socks my ankle will swell to till I can't bend it and my calf swells like that all the way to my knee making my jeans leg tight over it.

My wife broke hers in Jan and had to wait until May for surgery (had to be cleared by cardiologist first) and is just now getting around okay without a cast. She has a nice titanium plate and screws holding it all together now but it was a nightmare getting to this point.

I swim my 1/2 mi ea morning and walk as much as possible…until it hurts/swells…I’ll be hanging out and suddenly some invisible force sticks an ice pick into my foot…only lasts a minute or so🙈
Still have the same size boots but now I know I’ve got stuff to look forward to😁😅

I keep rolling my right ankle, torn ligaments and hairline fractures. Crushed my foot playing soccer. The bones healed but that foot is a 10 the other is a 12. Ever since the first time I rolled / fractured that ankle I've had problems with it.
Yeah, as I understand it, once you tear ankle ligaments you’re more susceptible to it happening again especially the older one is when it occurs. I tore mine in a summer work job in 98. Ripped half way apart. Took weeks to heal and months before I could cut/turn/jump on it. It never really bothers me much these days, but that ankle is not as strong and I can feel it pop and crackle whenever I flex my feet.

not a doctor but I stayed at holiday inn last night.... those top 3 screws look like they are sticking out about 1/8" When you are walking could they be causing some inflammation in the soft tissue?

They do, the skin there is so thin but the stab is nerve pain….its more over the top of the foot where they went in after ligaments🙈👍
Thanks😎

Was the coolant fresh? I had some milk based blue coolant when I was doing maintenance machining jobs that gave me a sinus infection like hells fury. If you got some of that crap on your skin could it have been causing an infection? I believe Even breathing some of that crap could kill you with legionnaires disease
Just throwing it out there
