I'm probably way off but as much as I hate scenerios, if I were to guess, our open border is the most likely source of a problem on this scale. 10-7 really woke me up to low tech possibilities. My everyday SHTF, IN Ohio, is everything from mundane things like job issues, injuries, car repairs, medical issues, home or appliance issues up to tornados, severe weather, power outages from ice storms. Mundane issues we had had within the last decade or so, including replacing a stove, the freezer and the fridge within the lastv60 days.

If I were planning for a bad actor, the border would be irresistable to me. Same for foriegn intelligence orgs. I would be scouting and putting togethor action packets, if I was prepping for some near future action or not. If the object was mass casualty like 10-7, on the same casualty ratio, that is well over 100k stateside. That means that everyone on this board, without exception, will be touched. A family member, a co-worker, a personalfriend....killed, hopefully quickly but probably not. This isnt a scenerio, thats a guess, this is a real world potential.

Military bases, infrastructure, high attendance events, domestic radicals, the are plenty of reports in the press. Vulnerabilities have recently been discussed on this site. Eh. I stay strapped alot. When I'm the old guy at the gym, I work out a little longer. I try harder, save more, plan more. My family is on board. I want them to have the tools to protect themselves. We live in strange times, that doesnt mean we can assume anything.

At this point, you truly can't trust anyone outside your family and closest friends circle. Don't engage in any informative conversation. Don't be prideful, in public, of your thoughts, skills, supplies or knowledge. Keep suspicion on everyone. Don't make enemies, intimidate other or make yourself a target in gatherings or public events. Low profile. Invisible if possible. Using psychological methods to gather intel and personality traits of those around. Intuition, if well-trained, can easily sort through those who are untrustworthy and potential threats.

Any comment on the milions of military aged men coming across our borders? What happens if the few at the top enlist/deputise them to quell another jan 6 type "insurection" in major cities.
Then expect civil war, or maybe groups of militia taking over LEO. If any Sheriff or police chief swears in non-Americans, then you can bet they are just as much an enemy of the state. I'd bet the brass would enlist them. But remember, if ANYONE in LE, goes against our Constitution & freedoms, they become the enemy. We should have done something during the CV lockdowns that was a test bed, so they know there won't be much resistance next time. Depends on the level of riot & chaos, all over the country. If it is widespread, and martial law is enacted, that will be the last straw for many.

Not long ago I wrote here that a new kind of pandemic could be the next SHTF, I hope I wasn´t right.

Because it looks like we got a candidate, H5N1, also known as the "bird flu", has been detected in cows all over the US, it doesn´t seem to affect the cows that much, BUT, it kills about 50% of the cats that drink raw milk from those cows and is infecting and killing mice as well.
According to the news just 3 people have been infected so far, one of them with cold -like sypmtoms, that´s bad news, even if those folks got well without any further problems, up to now mortality from H5N1 is around 40% of those infected.

Whats your thought on a SHTF that we might actually see? If thats yours, brother, then you should own it. Citizenship in exchange for honorable military service is an already established practice, just not in these cirumstances. It would need an enabling clause, at the very least, and outside of martial law and cooperation of the military, not just the General Command level, to pull off. Its pointless and a subject best pursued in the political section so an unrestrained discussion could happen.

Guns, OR lots of non hybrid seeds and chickens??
I
You won't last very long without all three.
I agree, I was just trying to get a read on peoples main idea. There is soooo much to having a plan that has a chance of working.
Right now even in small town montana we are seeing military aged males with limited english language skills who are dressed nice (not the average roofers and construction workers we normally see each summer) who are spending crisp $100 bills on nice stuff.

I know you, like me, are pretty well prepped. I can't believe how many of my coworkers are concerned and learned nothing from COVID shortages.

I apologize for it taking so long to get back with this thread concerning elec grid and emp. I hope it was this one anyways 🤪

Spoke with those with a higher pay grade than I. They said our grid for the most part is hardened at a decent level against solar emp's and probably most smaller man-made varieties. The grid is running "modern technology on antiqueted system". So if a natural or man-made event causes the grid to shut down electronically, nearly all of it can be up and running because the physical hardware is still in place and operational. We just use electrically controlled compomenets to operate the older physical components.

Would take time to go thru with manpower to institute this, but they said most utilities could be back to near normal operation, in less than a few weeks.

As for replacement parts, I learned that there are emergency reserve parts in storage in case of such large scale interruptions, including substation transformers. I did not know this, so sorry for the incorrect information earlier.

I'd like to get your sources to confirm your statements. But with our Magnetosphere weakening, and the 1859 Carrington event that was an X-20 CME, we've already had certain outages over the past 10 years. These were glancing hits. So there are a few Geo-spatial astrophysicists, who believe one direct hit, byt an X-10 +-, would do significant damage for a long period. Fuel pumps, and the supply chain to get to every transformer & substation would be severe

I know some highly paid people who go out and risk their lives restoring power and hooking up new commercial construction...
They have "some" back up transformers stored at the power company but not nearly enough.
They also deal with naturaly caused outages and have no problem imagining a takedown of the power system by a organized group nation wide. In light of our ongoing invasion I consider this a growing concern.
Lets see what happens this summer with record heat and people plugging their cars into the new charging stations.

FARSIDE SUNSPOT: A potentially-large sunspot group is hiding just behind the sun's southeastern limb. It's the big dark spot in this helioseismic map of the sun's farside. The active region will rotate onto the Earthside of the sun early this week. Solar flare alerts: SMS Text

I'm in agreement with you. I worked closely with Georgia Power while involved in local infrastructure maintenance. Utilities have spares but not unlimited supplies. And the larger oil cooled transformers for major sub-stations aren't available without a long lead timeframe.

I, too, know a few linesmen and company management. They are "aware" of solar threats, but they don't get many details from the execs. So I'm not trusting hearsay or have confidence in the stated "prepared" or "hardened". If you get a huge energy surge, that blows hundred of transformers, or it back feeds into the plants, let alone melts thousands of miles of copper/aluminum wiring, I think we're talking months to years to repair it all. But also consider the southern boarder immigrants of military age & CCP possibles, doing a strategic attack on many if not all substations. I don't think anyone, has considered a national grid down scenario. "It can't happen here" is very strong in those egos.

I agree with you. I think physical the possibility of attacks on infrastructure including grid substations is more of a concern and possibility than EMP attack. Three or four bad guys shooting up transformers even nationwide is a lot cheaper than EMP weapons.

Lets's see,,,,,I have to stock up on grass fed beef direct from the rancher, (don't need any clot shots coming in by way of store bought food) lay in some more organic feed for my chickens, double check the alternate solar power and low draw well pump, Clean and service the boom sticks and count the ammo, work up the guard duty roster for the 24/7 guard rotation. Secure and stash the freeze dryed food in places not so obvious. And after all that wait for another incoming dark meteorite or a sneaky comet coming in at interstellar speeds to create another younger dryas episode. Where does it all end...
Every night, a network of NASA all-sky cameras scans the skies above the United States for meteoritic fireballs. Automated software maintained by NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office calculates their orbits, velocity, penetration depth in Earth's atmosphere and many other characteristics. Daily results are presented here on Spaceweather.com.
On Jul 07, 2024, the network reported 7 fireballs.
(6 sporadics, 1 theta Perseid)

In this diagram of the inner solar system, all of the fireball orbits intersect at a single point--Earth. The orbits are color-coded by velocity, from slow (red) to fast (blue). [Larger image] [movies]

I predict that if these moronic monkeys don’t let Putin alone, THATS gonna be our Little Big Horn moment…
Care to explain what anyone is doing TO Putin?

Who "forced Putin" to invade Ukraine after written promises to Never do so?

This "sympathy" for Putin seems far misplaced IMO

Letting Putin Know in no uncertain terms his plan to move on NATO nations "next" is not a wise idea IMHO- he should be well aware of what his goals will factually mean to his future .

…As long as we commit to NATO even though Ukraine isn’t a member it’s pretty much cooked down to us pushing Putin ….
My angle may be skewed on that point but we committed to NATO not moving into the buffer countries then did it…
Now Russia is in Cuba and Nicaragua and it’s our deal to handle whether we want to or not…
