What do you guys think? I'm active duty, so the money would help for Xmas. There isn't all that much, a couple rolls of pre-64 dimes, and a few 1 oz bars. Nothing major.I'm just wondering what the hive thinks? It would be nice to have some tangible goods on hand if the SHTF.

Retired Military here.
I would think that you should have your preps in order first, because you have to eat and survive when or if you believe that S could HTF.
ultimately you have to make that decision to sell or not! I would not sell myself if I were to have precious metals I would be holding. The world markets and politics are doing strange things theses days and it is extremely unpredictable, meaning it might get tougher to buy PM's later
If I was in your shoes I would try to budget and cut down in other areas to make myself come up with the extra Presidential Flash cards. Do up a list and find out where you are lacking ....Ammo , Guns, Food, survival gear and such, then set priorities. you can't do it over night, sometimes it takes baby steps

Dude, not to sound harsh, but if you have to sell hard, tangible assets to buy xmas presents then you have your priorities all wrong. Either cut your spending or if possible make more money. Simple.

Take it out, look at it, remind yourself why you acquired it in the first place and put it back. That silver may help you to eat one day.

Dont sell them. If ever there was a time to hold on to them it is now. That is why the price is high. Economic uncertianty, namely the liquidity of the US dollar and the EURO in the coming months and years is undoubtedly uncertain.

If the dollar ever takes a major hit from inflation or collapses any PMs will become a very liquid asset. For instance something you might be able to purchase fuel with to get home or wherever you need to be.

I think that now is a bad time to buy PMs but a perfect time to hold on to them. The only time I would sell them is if the economy is recovering and the price falling to around the price at which you purchased them.

A few years ago I had to sell alot of my PM's to pay doctor bills. I was glad I had them. I now have started to reinvest and wont sell unless a major thing comes up. If anyway possible save the silver, you are going to need it in the future....Good luck

Do any of you really believe, if we have an economic crisis, that you can go to Wal-Mart and buy two carts full of groceries for a $20 gold piece?

One of the ten "Great Lies" being passed along as Gospel in 2010 is if the paper dollar turns into TP that smart people are going to buy goods cheap if they have PM coins. Coins are going to be useless. If TSHTF, are you going to sell a case of canned corn and another of SPAM for a $20 gold piece? PM are a hedge against inflation in a civilized society, that's all.

Read about the 1860-1880 era Indian Fighting in the west. Seen anything about the tribes asking for their treaty annuity in US coin? They paid in beef cattle as a rule.

I sold all my silver coins just last week. It was enough for two AR-15's and two cases of 223 once-fired reloaded with 55gr SP bullets. Under the table. If TSHTF they will be worth their weight in gold. They will also keep unwelcome guests from taking your PM and everything else you have, including your children, your wife, and perhaps your life.

Silver seems to be at a steady climb right now, with no signs of slowing down any time soon. I would hold on to it at least until the market has leveled off a bit. How would you feel if silver prices went the way of gold prices and you could have got ten times as much for it?

Do you really believe in an economic crisis so severe that credit & paper money is useless WalMart will be open for business as usual?

Those AR's and ammo have a lot more chance of getting you killed than gold that makes no noise,is compact and stays buried very nicely. All of those that have dreams the gun will be the source of power need to realize bullets go two ways. Sorry to inform you no medvac and a few trillion in forces will be there to back you up.

When goods are in short supply or not available there are always those who are smart enough to have goods for sale to those that don't. Bet on it.

Visualize your silver as your savings account. Are your present needs so great that you'd drain your savings now, and be broke should another crisis occur next week? Sell if you have to, don't if you can work through the present liquidity problem.
