Right at dusk,I grabbed my aw crap bag and went to pond to set up camp.

Not pretty but set up after dark at edge of pond, found a few worms going to try and catch breakfast,no service at pond so ran up hill to let fiance know I'm not dead lol

Guess I'm saying just do it,I usually give myself little daylight to set up,this time I went after dark and within 15-20 minutes shelter up and fire going good

Thats awesome, good on ya. I bet most of us have a GHB and/or a BOB but doubt everyone has ever hiked and camped with them. It’s good to get out to test what you have and keep skills fresh.

Few qual, few rabbits, few squirrel, not a lot of anything only 45-50 acres at home place, so not great for hunting or fishing few deer but those are mine lol
If "it is legal" shoot every coyotes you see. They attack fawns this time of year. They also prey on quail; rabbits and squirrels >if they can catch them.
I have coyotes coming through my yard. Rabbits are scarce. I haven't seen or heard any quail in more years than I can remember. want more game get rid of the predators if it is legal.
SHTF all predators need to be culled.

LOOKED like you set your ground on fire... 😁

I remember when I was a young whipper snapper and doing things like that.
Question..
are fishing using an ice fishing rod? Sure looks like one.

You can have serious fun with one of those things.

Not to stray off topic.... I am an Upland Man meself and I was told at a Quail seminar a while back that Bobcats were one of the greatest threats to quail because they hunt them at night and cause the coveys to scatter leaving the young unprotected. The quail cant covey up until daylight and by then predators have done their damage.

And the ones the predators don't get freeze to death because they cant generate enough body heat to survive.

I think its turkeys that have thinned out our Quail and pheasant,we used to have a lot of quail and a few pheasant, the thicker turkeys got the thinner quail and pheasant got,its rare to see pheasant now and very few quail left.

I have new skillet and little axe I wanted to try out,I really like that skillet, not terribly heavy yet thick enough it works great on some coals, that little cold steel axe is amazing for $22.00 usable out of the box, very nice grind it cuts deep and really isn't to sharp,I'll sharpen it up and sand varnish off handle then a few coats of linseed oil.
