Look up Paul Harrell on YouTube. He compares all these calibers in different length barrels. 30-30 is far superior to 44 mag and 44 mag is superior to 357.
The practical question then becomes how much does the ammo you want really cost and how available is it realistically going to be?

It's very easy to stock up on .357 and it goes full nukular in longer barrels and have its place.

Obviously, a pistol caliber carbine, or 30-30 for that matter, is never going to replace a real bolt action round.

First you have to ask yourself, how much do you need. What are you shooting? Is this going to be your only firearm? I like 357. I look at is as the best. I dislike 44 mag. Have no use for it. 45 colt to me is much better. 30-30 is functional within its limitations. I've shot deer and pig with it. Works fine. I have taken pig with 357. The key is the correct projectile. For 357 lighter projectiles work well for small game but do a lot of damage. heavy projectiles are better big game as you get better penetration. My 30-30s like cast projectiles and they are very efficient for small game. for large game I shoot a lead free Hornady projectile. Barnes projectiles in my 357 for big game. It is illegal to shoot lead projectiles when hunting in California. Don't let that happen in your state
