Or better yet black beans. My wife keeps trying to convince me that those things are food. Pointing out to her that all of the recipes for them come from 3rd world ****hole countries where they will pick the corn out of cowpies and eat it doesn't get me anywhere.
My eldest brother used to feel that way about black beans Until last year when I moved and I left him with all my 5 gal. Buckets and an 8 qt. Crock pot. Soon after that he started making chili etc. lost 90 lbs. and now he doesn’t know how he didn’t know about them all these years.

get a bunch, experiment, add red wine.. you are going to love them. Also, when you pair them with rice they are a complete protein!

Lol. Most likely if you can find them.

Back to OOS items, Walmart has been OOS on Hormel tamales. Ours has been out of stock for maybe 6 months. Last few cans I got were online after finding some there.
Wondering if Hormel Co is having problems
Have you tried Dollar Tree? They carry the Hormel Chicken Tamales for $1. Not quite as good as the beef but not bad either and about half the price.

Living in Houston, I don't think I've ever bought canned tamales. When you can get fresh made on just about every street corner from some Latino kid hawking his grandma's product. It's the Mexican version of butter and egg money for housewives. The old gals crank out a pot of them a few times a week and sends the kids out to sell them. She makes a hundred tamales, earns about $200 for the lot, gives her grandkids $50 and stuffs the rest in her stash for when her old man finally is too beat up to work construction anymore. It's like a privatized version of Social Security. You almost never see Latino beggars. They sell stuff instead. This low level economy that helps everyone get by. And the tamales are almost always damn good, regardless of who's grandma made them. I'll pick up a batch of them at work and take them home. Cook up some beans and rice to put under the tamales. Can't beat it.

Tamales must be a regional issue. I have them as well as plenty of canned corn. Maybe try for .223/5.56 for the tamales.

Your choice of beef, chicken, or pork $15/dozen in the Home Depot parking lot.

I am originally from Mendota Ill. They have a very large packing co there owned by del monte. They did a LOT of corn and peas every year. The growing season was very good back there this year. One friend got 280 bushels per acre of regular field corn this year.

Saw a whole pallet of canned regular corn at my Walmart today. 44 cents each.

Google is your friend. I saw a bunch of articles but only one that might be reliable. Don't know anything about the others.
I once said that in another group, "Google is your friend." I was quickly told that Google is not your friend. I researched, and I agree with the person who responded to my comment. Google in not our friend!

Agree Google is not your friend but can be very helpful in finding stuff. Lots of bad info out there.

Topped off fresh goods and disposables before election. Checked the canned good and all veggies are fully stocked now. Any canned meat, except fish, was gone now. No hash right up to canned chili, spam and ham.

I made freezer corn earlier this year - hadn't made it in 25+ years but we've been eating it a lot since I made it. May need to check into my local stores corn supply. I have 1 sorry pack of freezer corn on the cob for a low country boil. May need to find some of those too! ty for the heads up.

Potatoes got my attention last weekend. This time of year they are normally cheap so we can a bunch. The stores have plenty but not really any deals so I drove through the Atlanta Farmers Market. Its a huge market with rows of covered vendor stalls and stuff shipped in from all over the country. I only found one seller with white potatoes and they were obviously out of storage. There were tons of sweet potatoes, but those are grown local.

I was curious so a search turned up this article which I found rather interesting. We’re not getting bulk shipments and they are giving them away in Montana. Why potato farmers are stuck with billions of pounds of potatoes
Yeah. We had food organizations trying to connect potato farmers with pounds of potatoes with those who needed food. There were a bunch of "Come to this place at this time to get a box of potatoes" that went around the local blogs and facebook groups.

Just try to buy a whole flat of 1 type of canned goods - you get accused of hoarding. Our family has 5 households in the same community, many times my wife and one of our daughters shop for 3 or 4 households on their visit to the large box store. She gets limited in her buying by the computer for the next 24 hours. This makes shopping very hard for her. We are thinking about getting a restaurant business license, just so we can buy in bulk, like we have been for 25 years.

Being forced to go to more than one box store in a day makes it hard, she has to come home, divide out the food to where it goes, put the cold stuff away and then go out and do it again, just to wait in line to get inside of the second box store because of Covid 19. This waiting in line with limits(without reason) seems like what the communist countries do. The connected will always get theirs and the rest get the shaft.

Potatoes keep pretty well, even if the the eyes sprout, you can cut them out and plant them, being able to cook the rest of the potato. A good cook can boil a pot full and them have them ready in the refrigerator for a quick side side dish. Parboiled potatoes will make it easier to slice and cook fried potatoes, make it easier to make hash browns, get a great start on mashed potatoes. Leaving the jackets on give you much more nutrition.
Canning them makes it quicker to finish cooking them, but like most root vegetables, they keep very well in a cool dry place.
There are ways of growing in a barrel and harvesting from the bottom so you can always some fresh and ready.

No potato shortage here in Cleveland that I have seen, at least not yesterday. Going shopping today so I will try to check. Never been questioned about buying to much. If there is no sign posted for a limit, no one has ever said a word. What store is doing that?
