Is going UP today while the dollar is strengthening?

Has silver become completely unhinged from the dollar??? Normally (ok, almost ALWAYS) when we see this type of movement up in the dollar you'd expect to see a LARGE movement down in the price of silver, gold, etc. And yet, gold was flat, equity markets flat, and silver up 1.5% today!

What other factors are at work here?

Nope.
It's fallen off the day's highs, but... all I can guess is the planet realizes the dollar may hit a few pumped highs, but the trend is down. There is calling the stock market, the Fed is in too deep.

That question brings with it an image that the value of silver rotates or is dependant upon the USD. Kind of like the sun rotating around the earth. IMHO the value of silver is only vaguely aware of the existance of anything lesser than itself, especially a fiat money that was most likely designed to fail some 70 or so years ago.

You can't go by daily or hourly fluctuations. Look at 6-12+ months and maybe some better trends emerge.

Silver is traded on the open market the price is manipulated.

What happen from 2000 to 2004 when the usd index was all over the map but silver was flat?

I read about these things every so often, and one opinion that pops up often is that when metals stop moving inversely to the dollar, it is lack of faith in the dollars value.

The price of silver is volotile and fluctuates because of market manipulation. Many holders of silver contracts, where people pay banks to buy silver , do not actually hold the silver.
