ninja bot that was a great post but i kinda got lost on the messege with all the mnovies just too much for me to try to keep track of:xeye: sow one of the videos and i think hopefully they can burst some peoples bubbles on how gangster they are because they watched some self defence knife fighting video

I didn't watch all of the videos, but that was some good info.

Reality is you will get cut, slashed, stabbed and might not walk away from an attacker with a blade. Another reality it doesn't take much skill to do major damage with a blade, infact it is pretty easy and fast to cause major trauma.

We used "practice" with a white t-shirt and red markers, amazed at how much red there was at the end of a sparring session. Actually, it was pretty scary.

My number one knife defense rule.... stay away from the pointy/sharp end.
or dont go places where trouble frequents be proactive in your defence situational awareness is probbably the best self defence tool a person has

but avoiding sharp pointy things is prol a good idea

Was trying to convey a general mssg with some video accompaniment, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to effective knife defense. Sorry if it got confusing.
My main point was that you absolutely cannot stay at arms' length and try to defend yourself trading shots with the attacker, or trying to pull off some fancy trick. You'll just end up a corpse with any number of defensive wounds...

YES!!! Markers, "marking" trainers, or a Shock Knife are the best way to tell what works & what doesn't.

There is one factor to a knife fight that you have to accept if you're going to be carrying a knife for self defence and that is YOU ARE GOING TO GET CUT--Get past that and you can be formidable because like a CCW handgun if you pull it, you may have to use it, and if you use it you may have to kill--If you can't accept that and prepare yourself for that possible outcome then don't bother packing a weapon...

Stab hard, fast to the kidneys, throat, eyes and groin...Slash deep across the wrist, elbow, knee or forearm--blood loss, theirs, slows them down both physically but more importantly mentally...Never stab to the chest for an attempt for the heart unless you have a 12 lb rifle behind a 12" blade because the chances of getting the blade stuck is great...Go for soft flesh and blood loss...

No Nonsense Defense - Knife fighting lies

On this page:
Lie #1You're going to have time to draw your own weapon | Lie #2 It's going to be a knife "fight" | Lie #3 But what if I'm cornered?" | Lie #4 He's going to attack you a specific way | Lie# 5 And then he is going to passively stand there while you carve him | Lie #6 Trapping and stripping | Lie #7 Bio-mechanical cutting | Lie #8 Knowing how to stickfight means you know how to knife fight | Lie #9 Knowing kali makes you a knife fighter | Lie #10 Grappling with a knife | Lie #11 The knife is an extension of your hand | Lie #12 There is such a thing as a "master knife fighter" | Lie #13 That this is a "fight" at all | Lie #14 Expect to get cut | Lie #15 The FMA are the ultimate knife fighting systems | Lie #16 It's easy to disarm an armed opponent | Lie #17 You can successfully fight an armed attacker | Lie #18 Drills teach you how to knife fight | Lie #19 You can use a knife on another human being without legal repercussions

There are many so-called "experts" who claim to be able to teach you either knife fighting or defense against a knife. The problem is that most of them are just teaching regurgitated martial arts, usually from the Philippines. While I have lots of respect for the martial arts of other lands, the truth is that you live where you do. Odds are you are not in a "knife culture." And that means that whatever you do regarding knives must:

A) Work to keep you alive against how you are likely to be attacked by a knife in your homeland
and
B) If it does work, not put you in prison for murder or manslaughter

you know even though the army sent me to all sorts of cool schools on fightin and killin and i do carry a knife on me wherever i go i dont think id ever need to use it as a weapon because i dont go places where i will have problems

nor knowing what i do about it would i seek to escalate a confrontation unessesarily
you want my wallet you can have it
i have a debit card and maby 20 bucks in it soon as you leave ill report it stolen and get new card in the mail
unless i thought that this guy is going to kill us all type thing I dont think risking throwing away your life or physical well being over 20 bucks anf whateverelse you might have is worth it do you? unless its to save someone elses life whats the worth? things can be replaced your life and limbs cannot

things my knife is most dangerous around
sticks/whittling
fish and game
ropes and string
my fingers occasionaly
and my food
and thats about what i use it for

Not that I have any real experience or much that I can contribute to the discussion, but all the knife defense training I had. The major focus was to be a smaller target, defend from the side, facing broad side to your opponent makes you an easier target. Defending from the side will help prevent important organs and arteries from getting damaged. You can defend longer when just your limbs are out in the open.

Work on trying to escape, if you can't get away keep on trying to go for their active arm and/or close the distance.

Like everyone else says don't go or stick around places that may be a threat.

Ninjabot posted some excellent information about the brutality of fighting with knives and just fighting in general...

There's alot of good information someone can glean from those videos both directly and indirectly....
Reminds me of the most confusing things my most respected blade instructor said to me:
"The only guarantee is that you will get cut. So now, we'll train to not get cut..." :xeye:

Honestly...thinking about it.

If the average joe carries a 3" blade...I'm not going to draw my edc 3" blade. I'm going to throw a freaking chair at you, ram you with a mop, chuck rocks at you, etc. There's never a reason to fight against someone with a small knife. Either run or use whatever has more reach around you to your advantage. Heck a big stick works.

Now if a person where to pull a 10" bowie then that is a major problem. It's a serious weapon and running would be great, but barring that I'll take a sword thank you. Of course a gun is a nice option too.

Only takes 2" penetration to kill you that little three inch blade can reach any vital organ in your thorasic cavity

Think prison shank, those are small blades but can do immense amounts of damage very quickly. You don't need a 10" bowie to kill a person.

Actually, in my mind a 3" blade is more dangerous because you will never see it.

OK I carry a 3" Benchmade assisted open and a Surefire Defender flashlight, but I also carry a Glock 30, all within the same time frame of reach.

Now if I have time to pull my knife and open it I would have time to pull my Glock and turn you over to God.

Otherwise I toss the wallet and run the other way.
