Sorry-no-clues PEW research say that the Muslim population of the UK will be around 20% by 2050.

No country with such a rapidly rising Muslim population can cope with such changes peacefully. This is far more real than people bleating about EMP or some volcano blowing up or the US government turning on its freedom-loving people.

Why prep is the question on many journalists, film makers and newsmen’s lips, from Channel 4 to Nat Geo they all want to know what drives people to (A) stockpile food that will last maybe a year or more, (B) why do we drive 4x4s generally, (C) why do we live away from cities, (D) why do we safely store extra diesel and petrol, (E) why do we have wood burning stoves.

(A) Because we may lose our jobs or truck drivers may go on strike so we use the food as insurance against hard times.
(B) Because we remember winter 2010 when even the police, army and government agencies got stuck, and villages got cut off for days with millions of people left helpless, we ensured we could help our neighbours.
(C) Because we see the effects of city gang crime, ethnic unrest, overcrowding, union control of public transport systems, the risk of pandemic disease and the utter reliance on the supply chain.
(D) Because we know what the general public are like and how easily they are panicked into knee jerk hysteria driven panic buying (look at the news from the 20th March 2012 to at least the 5Th March) just the remote possibility of a fuel tanker driver’s strike at least two weeks in the future was enough to make the sheeple panic buy thus causing chaos and a self-fulfilling prophecy of chaos.
(E) Because we have seen the reports about the vulnerability of the gas and oil supply system and its vulnerability to sudden surges in cost.
Why prep? Easy because it’s just common sense.
I love this, if you are always prepared, you never have to get prepared. Especially in these times of uncertainty.

240Geezer What is this "prep"'they speak of?

That's just a way of life. Farmers, ranchers, loggers, fisherman. They don't generally live in the city. Or have just 10 gallons of gas around. Or just keep a bag of chips and a six pack in the house.

But a better question would be; Why don't people prepare for at least a little, teeny, small, minor disaster?

scoutn2 I know why they ask because they are part of the establishment . They are the ones that send the fema buses . I will not RIDE . 95% of the people dont know how to prep kill or clean anything . Scoutn

Neut Anderson I live near the Gulf so all we prep for is Hurricanes = food & water mostly.

But bear in mind, the TV media is the primary propaganda tool of the Liberals so don't pay them no mind!

patriotnazerine My first answer is. . . I enjoy the challenge. Since I began this I don't have that typical American throw it away mentality.
My wife and I worked hard to be able to buy a 100 acre farm. Since then I learned how to run some beef, raise chickens and ducks. . . take gardening to a whole new level. We have a gas well on the farm. . . so getting a Natural gas back up generator was an easy decision. We get our water from a spring and raise heirloom plants.
Sites like this give me great new ideas

Query My article "What is it like to be a UK survivalist?" looks at why people prep, and explores the lives of two UK preppers.

longhorngnu When the question of "why Prep"
is posed. The correct answer is - "you're stupid if you don't." There are several other answers to that.
- you want to die?
- you don't care about your children & loved ones?
- you trust any government to come rescue you? City state county or federal?
- by being prepared - I can survive - will you?
- it gives me the abity to help others if I choose too.

My great grandmother came across the prairie in a wagon. My grandparents lived through the depression. My parents learned how to hoe gardens pick beans & put them up. Make soap from ashes & pig fat.

The lost skills of those generations are things I'm working to relearn in my life. Why? Because Wally World & 7 Eleven ain't gonna always work. They are certainly convenient - and I use them. But should I count on that for my survival? If you do - I go back to my initial postulate - "You are stupid". Oh yeah - forgot the Ron White corollary: "You can't fix stupid".

pony_boy I'm not so much of a prepper but more a person who would like to become self sufficient and/or learn to live off the land.

I love camping and the natural world which prepping often revolves around.

Stoveman Why prep?
It is a wise thing to do.
The same reason a squirrel stores away nuts. So as not to go the way of the grass hopper.

out her in Ca. the red cross used to tell us have supplies for 72 hours
now they tell us have enough for 2 weeks.

some of the people who where in Hurricane Katrina are still waiting for FEMA aid

Harkness A lot of people cant understand why prepping. I can see this in my neighbourhood. Our grandparents saved goods and other things for hard times. Today you go buying, when your kitchen is empty.
I understand prepping in the way you can help yourself, when there is nothing to get. It is a little way being independently. But in emergencies you can help others to.
For me, this means have a plan and goods for survive a little time on your own feet. But also have talents you and other needs, like help, when a person gets ill.

Prepping is a kind of social consciousness. Only those who are able to help themselves, can really help in times of need.

Purdy Bear For me it is simple. I prep to help keep history alive, to feed my pets, my family and help out where I can. I'm a total cheap skate, so if I can make it, get it as a bargain I'm straight in there.

I mean someone has to look after this country/planet, there are so many people going out for a good time, wrecking the environment, treating the wildlife as if it's something nasty on their shoes, someone has to be on their side.

I don't know where you've got this strange image of preppers from but it definitely doesn't apply to us all.

Anyway, if someone asked me "why prep", I'd say..

"Prepping? Do you even know what that means? Do you keep food in your fridge? Are you then, to an extent, not a prepper? Or do you constantly and only ever buy things completely on a whim? I thought not. Welcome to the world of prepping!

So we've established that virtually everyone is a prepper. Well we simply prep a little bit more long-term than you, like people have been doing for thousands of years. We're intelligent enough to see the fragility of modern day society. Non-preppers are weird - dogs bury their bones, squirrels store up their harvest, it's human nature to save for the future - but you sheeple live your lives completely dependent on the government and others to provide for you."
I don't know where the 'Thank' button went, but Thank you!
Like, too!

gregfreeze12 We are in a tornado zone as well so no reason not to be prepared for that if nothing else.
