I have to rely on elk to eat down the forage on my property. Though with this drought, any forage is hard to come by.

Steve_In_29 Covid might be a bit worse than flu but it's NOT some killer pandemic that wipes out huge numbers of people and justifies ruining our economy over it.

Plus when the CDC adjusted their Covid numbers to weed out all the people that died from covid gunshots, covid car accidents, covid drownings, covid heart attacks, etc, etc, etc it REALLY dropped the numbers of people who actually died from covid.

The CDC has been criticized for years that their influenza numbers had been artificially inflated in order to push people to get "flu shots".

And with that I think the covid discussion is done as there is an entire sub-forum for that.

To get this back on track.....

SSGNasty Roughly it's been about 3% deaths vs the number of cases.

Last winter 80,000 died from the flu - but how many of those cases were COVID-19. Doctors have had "flu" cases from last year that they could not diagnose as really being the flu. My son had a severe case last December and his doctor has told him that with what they know now, it is very possible he had COVID.

While the numbers of cases has been high, the hospitalization rate is about 5%.

Hospitalizations for flu run about 1% out of about 30 million cases of flu in the US (2019 figures).

While the impact of flu varies, it places a substantial burden on the health of people in the United States each year. CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010.

COVID seems to be taking a higher toll on the population than the flu does.

Just my thoughts. Feel free to fire away.

Steve_In_29 "Pig headed"....have you been talking to my wife? LOL

St Johns has the "mask required" signs up as the law requires but except for the libs (or those required by their job) most people ignore them. Just had an impromptu conversation in the Post Office with a line of mask free patrons and the consensus was that masks just let us know who the enemy is.

I agree the covid has been a huge nothing burger and turned into a control issue instead. I was a believer in the beginning since I couldn't see China wrecking their economy over nothing but once it was here in the US and we weren't seeing thousands of people dying a day the truth came out.

teddyearp Hi folks, looks like Steve can be really pig headed sometimes, lol. Thought I'd do another 'report' since this controlyavirus still seems to have so many folks afraid. Sadfeway in Pinetop last Friday most folks were wearing masks. And is it just me, or do the checkers at these stores seem to be kind of surly and just not friendly anymore these days?

Up the road at the Beverage House, an occasional customer wears one. Went to Sweetheart's Cafe in Show Low on Sunday, though, and they would not let me in without a mask, no exception. When I turned to leave they did say, well you can eat outside, and to that I agreed. Tiny tables and all. Food good though.

Yesterday at the Taylor Walmart, I actually bought my first package of TP from a store since this thing started what more than six months ago? Mask wearing among customers is fifty-fifty, all employees must, and there was some guy with a mask and face shield over the top of it.

IMHO, this virus never panned out and never was going to pan out like the constant media barrage made people believe.

Pig the neighbor and I raised. Killed and gutted to send to butcher today. My wife wanted the head to strip the meat off it.

I found an old PM. The guy went by "3percentR" on here but hasn't logged on since Jan 2019.

Did we exchange some PMs back when you first got to Alpine? If not there is another forum member living in your neck of the woods.

Steve_In_29 While I was on hiatus I took a trip to New Mexico yesterday.

They were regrading CR6040 and I had been seeing an 18 wheel water tanker making multiple trips a day past my place, so took my Mule down the road to see what I could see.

Got to the AZ/NM border (10 miles from my place) without seeing anything that looked like they had needed a large amount of water. Since I was already out there I kept going until I reached the bridge I had heard about that's closed to traffic (3 or so more miles) before I turned around.

That bench seat on the Mule sure wasn't meant for almost 30 miles of driving. LOL

Nope, it was Kev's thread about the hurricane. I said given his background it showed lousy planning to only own a single generator. Which apparently upset his boyfriend (ImRight) who during the ensuing exchange (since deleted) cried that I added nothing to the thread and further was uncouth so I should leave. He didn't like my reply and apparently complained...so I caught a ban.

hiwall1 We have been here going on 4 years now.
When we first met our closest neighbor (1/2 mile away), one thing I said was that I shoot a fair amount and I hoped the noise wouldn't bother them. They said, "come on over and use our range if you want." We have since become very good friends.

teddyearp Hang on, we may have to vet you . . . Welcome. Alpine is a great place. Love it out there. My favorite was down towards Blue. Coming over into Blue from the NM side, now that's cool.

Welcome to the White Mountains of Arizona. If you didn't already know it, you will find many, many like minded individuals here.
