Aerindel | A high pitched hissing sound. Not loud at all.

PatrioticAmerican | How loud are those things? Are they like stun guns?

Aerindel | Mine has held up well so far after a year of admittedly, light use. It's a little hard to start a fire with but ideal for lighting fuses.

hawgy54 | Be very careful plugging the charge cable (mini usb port) in. I have had several crap out at the port, they quit making contact, got loose, one crumbled. But they work when charged.

Mine must have been part of the same shipment, I just got mine today too! Mine has two O-ring seals on it, one for the lower housing and one for the upper cap. |

I just got my Orange beauty today. Man if it had an o-ring seal on the cap it would be near bullet proof. I might consider some sort silicone grease to help seal that joint. Anyway seems like a good deal for <$8. thanks for pointing them out. Hope you are feeling better. |

harbinger1972 | Like that design. Top opens alot compared to the top opening on mine.

I bought two after I read this post back in March and used the smaller one all summer to start fires, no issues. Thanks again bunker! |

Update on the lighter. Just a discovery really. Careful not to get build up on the electrodes. I had a combination of soot and wax on mine. Keep em clean. |

Walmart had the removable cap model [picture by Harbinger], cost around $15. I use it about every other day to light my trash barrel. Been windy lately and it has always made me a fire. Usually I light newsprint. The only criticisms I have are 1. I wish the cap was more sturdy and tethered to the body with a string or something. 2. I would like a way to hang it from a nail. [A string to tether the lid would allow this] |

ShaDoLor | Thanks for the post BB. I've been curious about these for awhile now.

The lipstick tube style one that I bought my wife is far more practical and user friendly. |

I also bought a few kinds to play with after BB's thread here. One out of the three I bought, the Zippo style, would not charge at all. So I too question the reliability. Will not be changing out any my kit for one and will use them around the house. Just my experience... |

Then I clicked on higher end (maybe?) storm proof jet lighter, and the reviews were much better, in that the "worst" review, was that they thought the lighter would be bigger, or smaller than it was. So, while I'd like to try one, I don't think it will replace anything. Probably a good supplement, though. |

Ordered a couple different ones to try on your advise BB. Also found one of the Zippo style ones that opens all the way. https://www.amazon.com/UST-TekFire-F...geable+lighter |

I prefer the type where the prongs extend. Simply more versatile. ![]() The ones built like a zippo fire tinder up. But are a bit awkward when doing so. Lid doesn't fully open & sparking tips appear closer together They are also considerably heavier. That said, it may be the internal battery may be bigger, with a higher capacity? Which would be a good thing, if so? Pro's & Con's with both. ![]() |

gorn5150 | The burning part is true. You can light someones clothes on fire with one. And they will give you a nasty burn. The shock part is way over hyped. They are uncomfortable but not stun gun level by any means.
03-23-2018 05:43 PM | ||
gorn5150 | There are hundreds of brands of these things. I have no idea if they are UL or any other rating company rated. Not sure what gimcrack is but I guess it is used as some derogatory term for Chinese made goods. My confidence in a product has nothing to do with where it is made. Even Pakistan has some decent exports. I'm guessing you have confidence in your Chicom computer that you typed your message with.

neiowa | Any of these gizmos indicate a UL rating (or are they from the recent/former hoverboard manufacturers)? A Chicom battery operated gimcrack is not a recipe for confidence in the product.
