Uhhh, 'cause it's the law, for revenue. Why do I carry? 'cause it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I expect after spending the day reading a few of the posts on this web site you could probable produce a two hour lecture on the reason's why without needing some one to tell you why.

I carry because it is my right to carry and for the common protection of myself, my family, and my friends.

Agree with the statements above, its OUR right, just have to pay a 'tax/fee' to do so.

Plus it makes it "cash-n-carry" for future additions to the collection, NO waiting!

Why do I carry? Because I'm to old to take an a** whipping and I'm to young to die.

But seriously, the best reason for a CCW is the ability to carry at all times and do it legally. If you are into preparedness, why not give yourself one more tool to survive.

Because s#it happens on it's own schedule, and NOT yours...

Glock in the night stand is fine, but most people spend 1/4 to 1/3 of the day in bed, and the rest of it up and about.

You may never need a ccw, and that's fine and good.

If you actually need it just once in your life and you don't have it...game over.

I start the 90 day clock tomorrow, its gonna be torture waiting for it.

Cause I got tired of being paranoid about going to jail for not having one.

Secondly, cause it came with the badge.

I believe it is my duty to protect my family and myself. The law allows us to carry if we have a permit(at least in the none communists states)so abide the law until it goes against the constitution. If that happens then we have even more of a reason to carry.

1st reason is because you want one. So quit pu$$y footing around and get it.

It supports the 2nd Amendment, NRA and probably keeps some instructor like me in Carharts.

We don't have to have one to carry but the permit issued in our state is reciprical to 35 others, so you can carry many places that you travel to. Every class we teach is full.

It's good instruction. Our legal instructor is a Senior Deputy Attorney General who answers all kinds of "What if..." questions that are always entertaining. You're training is never complete.

It's a "Good Guy Card", because you can't get a permit if you have a serious criminal record. When cops see it, they know they probably aren't dealing with a dirt bag, meth head, or child molester.

I carry a gun because it is my god given right and to protect myself and the ones I love..

I got my LTCH because the state says it should cost me $125 to be able to exercise those rights.

So you can be in a government database?

If you have to obtain a...'permit'...you are not exercising your 2nd Amendment right by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't think it's unreasonable, as most people don't know squat about the laws involving self defense.

Database... Hasan was in "the database"... if you have a Social Security #, then one can dig up your whole life in five minutes on a computer. A handgun permit is totally insignificant when compared to your college transcripts, home mortgage and credit card purchases. A CCW Permit pops up at the top of "other information" category in a NCIC report. When I was checked out before ride alongs in other states, they missed it every time.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Point out those "self-defense laws" if you would.

And I meant a gun database...sorry, thought that was evident.

Default What they said and...

Odds are, I'll never need it because I live and work in fairly safe places, but I carry to:

Defend myself
Defend my family
Defend my friends
Defend someone if I am witness to a crime where someone is seriously likely to get hurt (I know, mind my own business, but I don't think I could)
Stop a Fort Hood/Columbine/Virginia Tech - except those all happen in unarmed victim zones
Stop a Mumbai style terrorist attack.
Also, permit holders can buy a pistol w/o getting a permit to buy every year.

How likely is it that I'll ever be in a Luby's Cafeteria or Dunblane? Less than winning the lottery, but if I ever were, I'd want to have a gun.

Are you married, have kids, ever go out?

Someday when you least expect it someone may pop up and yell surprise, and it won't be Allen Funt from Candid Camera. You will be at a Lubies having dinner, picking a kid up at school, at your place of worship or just dropping by The Good Guys for batteries for your radio.

The bad man will come and you either have the option to do something or sit back and watch.

That's why.

I experienced a robbery when a guy had a gun. Thankfully he just got what he wanted and got out. I also was able to leave the restaurant as soon as he said "I'm robbing you". After that, it made me think about the "what ifs". So I decided to put myself on equal grounds with those who have no respect for the law or others.

To start with, there is no "Gun Database", not even with Class III collectors and dealers. No bunch of gov't dolts sitting in a basement monitoring how many Mosin-Nagant POS rifles you buy stash and sell. They are not checked or monitored by law enforcement officers or ATF Special Agents. Compliance coordinators (un-armed clerks, who just have a regular GS paygrade, non-competitive to GS-9) check their books and handle the crap they go through.

Self-defense laws are different to every state.

Some have the castle doctrine expanded to "right to be, right to defend".

Some allow citizens to shoot a thief... Florida, Texas, Arizona.

Ours allows engagement to stop a burglary.

Others have the duty to retreat unless it's your house, mobile conveyance or grievous bodily harm to you and yours.

Some states have open carry allowance, some don't.

Here, we have a serious and very specific requirement to notify LEO's you are CCW if you are contacted professionally by any LEO with peace officer status.
