Default Do not buy remington deer corn

While putting some corn in the feeders this weekend, my son and I found a feeder that was clogged up. We removed the spinner motor and looked up into the funnel - there was a stick laying across the hole so that no corn could get through.

We had to drain the corn out of the feeder, lay it on its side and clean the drum out.

A little while later, I noticed these sticks in the next bags of corn we were using. So there is a chance that this corn could have debris in it that could clog up the feeder.

My suggestion - do not buy remington deer corn.

just out of curiosity Kev...how long does a bag last in the feeder.

We don't use feeders like that here but I think it might be interesting to try and introduce it here with respect to giving the deer another option of food.

It depends on how long you set the feeder to go off when you program the feeder. Mine goes thru about 5-50lb.bags a month.

Like Yeboh posted, it depends in the spin time of the motor and how many times a day it throws food. These feeders are usually set to about a 5 - 7 second spin time, hold about 200 pounds and usually last about 4 - 6 weeks.

After deer season, I will turn the timer down to about 3 - 4 seconds and once a day. That will usually last about 2 - 3 months.

Has that been an ongoing problem, or just a recent occurrance? Might be worth contacting the mfg'r and see if it was a sporatic production problem. Heck, they may replace it for free.
If not, let us know. lol No need to throw $$ away buying sticks.

Happens all the time where I am.The people they have working at our local co-op are your typical south texas workers(it's just a paycheck,no pride in the job they do,basically just want to make it through the week so they can bar-b-Q and get drunk)They don't do a good job of screening the corn when they sack it,all kinds of stuff goes into the bag.I ran a commercial hunting operation up til last season,my hunters only had time to be here 3 days at a time, and it really was bad when the feeders didn't work. We in the last 3 yrs have had to dump over 6000lbs from the feeders. We have 30 feeders,so it gets to be a real pain.I would think that if the commercial corn, had problems,it was because of a problem with equipment, and probably a freak incident.Good luck this season Kev.

Are there any cases of Chronic Wasting Disease in your deer in Texas? ILLINOIS DNR does not allow baiting or deer feeders here partly because of the spread of CWD in our deer herd.

The governor of Michigan issued a regulation against baiting here, too. Claimed the same thing,CWD. Its been a real stick in her craw, all those people selling deerbait, and not charging sales tax,so she banned it.
She never quite explained how two deer eating from a baitpile would spread CWD,but two deer eating corn in the same field won't. Absolutely the worst governor this state ever had.
