Thier are so many types of gas mask available on the market right now, it makes it hard to know whats the best. I know i need a NBC nato filter but what Im wanting to know is what mask has a good field of vision, comfortable in a tactical situation. Any help will be great.

The one that you use as your icon is one of the best, if you can find one.

The best known and easily maintained is the M40 military series, plenty of parts and canisters. Also allot of data on the filters. For field of view, I like the USAF version of the mask, they went with a full visor set but its the same M40 series innards.

I've trained and operationally used both and I like the USAF version better than the separate eyelets.

Oh, there is a M48 model that uses two filters and a positive pressure blower. Again based of the M40 series. This one uses 4 or 6 D batteries to operate the blower. It was designed for aircrew mainly then turned into the site exploitation mask of choice due to the positive air pressure advantage since SCBA was difficult to maintain in the desert.

Just scroll down to the M48

Well, I got mine for 'free', after one of my deployments (which would require joining the military and risking your life overseas...and MAYBE the unit will mess up your hand receipt of the things you where issued).

Best option is Ebay, M40 gas mask search gives you a bunch of options. Do a Google search to find the M40 mask FM that covers service and maintaining the mask, look at the sizing chart inside to find the correct gas mask size to buy. Large mask would most likely cover someone with a head diameter of about 7 and 5/8 inch (Thats the hat size I wear and I use a Large M40 mask). The bids start pretty low but can go high, still cheaper than the $80-150 you would pay new.

Actually, it looks like a good mask. The other foreign militaries make excellent masks its just getting the replacement filters and parts that might be a problem. Since its only $9, get 2 or 3, gives you some for spare parts and extra canisters. The reviews said you could get an adapter to fit the NATO thread C2A filter cans.

get what you can afford. the likelihood of having to use it is minimal but, hell, we wouldn't be survivalists if we didn't prepare.

edit: i like the full face visor ones.might have to get one.

Agreed! You know the Belgium soldiers during WWI just @Issed in their handkerchiefs and placed around their nose and mouth But it worked filtering the mustard gas (while they ran like @ell away from it). So, yes get what you can afford, you'll only need it to get away from the attack, should only take less than 30 minutes - average life of a filter under use.

indeed, most people think masks are for long term, they are for escaping the biological threat unharmed and designed for 30,40 minutes use under duress.

Oh, but plan for a filter exchange while you decon! During the decon process your mask is the last thing to come off, so if you used 29 minutes to get away, you'll need a spare filter to swap before entering the decon line. Totally forgot about that. Most of my training is with STEPO gear - either SCBA or tether lines on a cascade trailer, literally hours of air if need be. I only do standard mask/NBC training twice a year.
