Default 10mm round banned?

Advertise Here

So I was at BImart today BSing the gun counter guy who I talk to alot. We got on the topic of the 10mm ammo being way hard to find like .380. And he said a guy gave him an article off the internet about the round being "banned" by Obama. The article stated that ammo manufactures can only sell to LEOs, and military....

I got home and looked on the net, and I cant find one thing about this. So im putting it out to you guys... Any info???? Or do you think this is a load of crap?

It's not a hot seller and the ammo companies are trying (desperately) to catch up on the demand for those that are.
That's all.

Actually I just watched a Gallery of guns interview (current, not old) and one of the reps from distribution said .380 was a HOT seller, due to their compactness for concealed carry

I hear that about the .380.... I finally got 2 100 rd boxes of it. 37 bucks a box for hollowpoints.... Not too bad since they wanted 30 bucks a box of 50 for cheap hollowpoints at the gunshow...

Urban legend. Here's the deal,

An ammo rep told me this a couple months ago.

.380 rounds are made on the same producton line as 9mm. 10mm rounds are made on the same line as 40 S&W. The machines are changed for calibers, there aren't production lines for each caliber, too costly.

In order for ammo manufacturer's to keep up with the 9mm and 40 S&W demand, production on the .380 and 10mm suffers.

The 10mm ain't the hot seller it was back in the day. The .40 has blowed it out the water. It's way behind the 9mm, .40S&W, .357SIG, .45ACP, .380, .38 Spl./.357 Mag, though that is a shame, it is a damn good general purpose round though I prefer a .44 Mag over it.

the 10mm projectile is the same as the .40 S&W projectile....a surplus of one means a shortage of the other. 40 is everywhere.

Same goes for rifle ammo too. the down time to reset the tooling means they loose money. They'll just keep churning out the same common stuff to keep up with demand. 150gr .30-30 ammo has been tough to find for me.

Anyone notice quality suffering lately with their ammo. I sume can imagine they're using more worn press punch and moulds.

You don't see any 10mm for sale because no manufacturer has it in the line nor planning on it. You really have two choices only; First, if you are lucky, get Winchester Silvertip, and Second, order from Double Tap, if you trust this guy.

I wish Gold Dot would develop a 10mm 180 grain round traveling at around 1250 fts. New Glock 20SF would be in my armory in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, this round could be totally obsolete in a few years.

Absolutely Gold Dot for the win..

I'm a fan of the +p+ 124 Gr 9mm.
It is the ONLY 9mm I feel confident with.

This particular load is one of the best regardless of the caliber.

Default 10mm ammo

No one on the 10mm Forum seem to know anything about it.

<http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/10mmTalk-Lounge-f247.html>

It is usually easier to just order 10mm by the case.

Not enough turn over in most gun stores to stock it.

Eagle Gun Range in Macon, GA keeps 10mm reloads in stock, but they service a group of dedicated 10mm users.

Like the 41 Magnum, the 10mm was a potent handgun cartridge that just didn't catch on.

S&W tried to kill the 10mm with their 40 Short and Weak. The FBI was very interested in this cartridge, as it performed well in its tests when using full power ammo. Unfortunately, too many non-shooters joined the ranks and complained about recoil. They watered down the cartridge, S&W saw an opportunity to create a shorter cartridge that fit in 9mm guns, and the rest is history. The 10mm has a cult following (me included) as there are people like Ted Nugent who use it as a hunting round. It's viable for game up to deer inside 100 yards. It has more power in a semiauto than a 357 in a revolver when loaded properly.

If you want bulk practice ammo, Georgia Arms sells 500 and 1000 round bulk pack in 165 and 180gr FMJ loads. Good stuff, and the brass is reloadable.
