Claymores. My favorites.

Seriously, I would trade my guns for invisibility, so I guess the next best thing would be stealth, stealth and more stealth.

I have a ASP for a back up, but check your state and county they are not legal everywhere. Also if you are going to get one take a class on how to use one.

Depends on the number of enemy, range, enemy arms etc etc i guess.

Heres my votes:

1 enemy, long range -> crossbow

Multiple enemy, long range -> compound bow

1 enemy, close range -> sword

Multiple enemy, close range -> sword (again)

Enemy vehicle -> cannon -> catapult if cannon not available

Enemy building -> cannon -> trebuchet (spelling..) if cannon not available

If I didn't have a gun, and they did, I would just get the heck out of there if i could of course!!!

"Personal Artillery" (a good bow with arrows, tape, and sticks of dynamite with short fuses).

True story:
At the department where I worked, they gave civilian self-defense courses. It involved knowledge of the law, weapons handling, etc. At the beginning of each class, someone would invariably ask, "What's the best self-defense weapon?"
The instructor's stock, and considered answer was, "A good pair of Nikies!"

Good thing the first thing I lost was my mind.... I'd hate to be without a gun.
Okay, trying to be serious here.
I like the suggestion about the ASP (especially the GET TRAINING advice), but it's a toe-to-toe weapon.
IMHO, almost any projectile weapon (bow, crossbow, etc) is too slow in a combat situation. More a sniper's choice.
I've thought about this, and I always come back to a staff. It has all sorts of functions besides a weapon, it doesn't look like a weapon, but in trained hands it's devastating. It can be used to thrust, parry, strike and disarm an attacker.

Don't forget a spear

Especially as a defensive measure against animals, you would want to keep a distance. Also, you can use it as a hiking stick.

Staff vs Sword though... I think I would want the sword.

The sword also has multiple uses (you can cut up your sandwiches with it :P ).

On the other hand, if your trained to use a staff, but leave it at home, your far more likely to be able to improvise a staff from something laying around than a sword.

Decisions decisions...

A spear is a staff with a pointy thing on one end.
But before you throw it, be sure you have a plan for getting it back.

I'd want (and plan to get, eventually) a group of non-firearm weapons. Crossbow, long bow, half a dozen javelins, a boar spear or two, long sword. Already have 24" machete and tomahawk.
