Default Canning lids in bulk

Advertise Here

So, we've been doing quite a bit of canning the last few weeks and most of our lids (not the rings) we've had for some time from garage sales, sales at stores etc.
But after looking at the cost of them I started to think at about $2.00 for a box of 12 lids that you can only use once (I do save mine for the freezer and vacuum sealer) for canning the price will be about $.20 a jar.

Does anyone know where I can get them in bulk?

Thanks,
-HikerDad

Watch for sales locally. Also, places like Big Lots sometimes has them for $1 a pack. Online, you can order them in bulk for a lot cheaper. Sometimes you see a good bulk deal go through Ebay also. Set an alert.

I've also heard about restoring the lids by boiling them in water with baking soda added. Apparently this causes the rubber seal to expand back out to make a proper seal again. I haven't tried this, but it would be cheap enough to experiment with just to know for sure.

Look at Big Lots and Freds if you have them - here is an online source that I believe discounts in quantity:

Or get the reusable ones. I still haven't heard any reviews on those yet though.

Watch for Wally world to clear out stock for Christmas. Mine has them on sale for $1.00 per pack. Pint jars are 5.00 dozen.

The cheapest every day place to buy lids in bulk are at Fillmore Container company. They sell Ball lids cheaper than anyone if you buy in bulk.

Like others have said, now is the time to buy them from local stores. This is the time of year to bulk up on cheap lids, don't wait a couple weeks or they will be hard to find. I bought (a few....) Ball brand from Wal-Mart this week for $1 each, and widemouth for $1.50. Call every Wal-Mart within an hour of you until you find one with the right price and quantity. It's probably cheaper to drive a little than to buy them over the internet anyway.

http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/Lid...-Dome-Lids.htm $1.55 per dozen by the case shipped (Ball Brand)

Odd Lots has them for $1 per dozen (Golden Harvest brand)

Goodman's sells bulk lots, but they are around $1.80 shipped
