Default Can a solenoid trigger a 12 gauge shotgun shell?

I have an idea for an electronic device that take 12 shells and can be fired electronically. Is that possible? If so, what type of force or pressure is needed to trigger off a shotgun shell?

Thanks!

Personally I'd question the legality of making what you're suggesting AND until I knew the answer I'd be cautious about talking about it on a public forum like this... I'd call the ATF and ask before you go actually putting one together...

did you say 12 guage Shot gun shells? No, couldn't have. I think you said flare gun rounds. So I'd hafta ask, are you tryin' to trigger your "flare guns" trigger or actually fire the "flares" with the Solenoid by hittin' the primer? if so what is the application for the flare gun? also is this an electric solenoid or a pneumatic unit?

As the last fella said, this is a public forum, so be careful how you ask things. there are ways to ask things that are better than others. When the SHTF dependin' on how, when an' to what extent, a lot of us may have to do some odd an' questionable things, but until then be careful not to set yurself up for trouble.

sence you mean flare's then yes.

what your looking for is a servo or solenoid to trip a firing mechanism for said FLARE devise. not complicated. id look into Hobie shops but its doable with common Wal-Mart stuff. use your imagination with anything you see that is remote actuated and there you have it.

O, and those ATF fellers get real Iffy about poor wording verse you actual intend of using flare devises ect.

Legally, that can easily be construed as a booby trap, and if some innocent mope gets killed by it, you'll go to prison forever. Ditch the idea.

12 ga and 37mm rounds also, there is already a device like it on the market, it is used for IED training for the military and the LEO bomb squads. Yes if you fire ANYTHING other than a SIGNALING DEVICE ROUND you WILL go to jail, the ATF will take your BOV and your dog and your flat screen TV and your puter. just sayin

No different than the CVA muzzleloader that uses electronic ignition.

It all depends on how the design is set up and the adherence to legal standards. The law simply says 18" barrel and 27" overall. It does not specify the ignition type or source.

Hi-Standard and Hamirelli both made olympic free style target pistols that used solinoid ignition. they were the best in the world and are still sought after by olympic shooters.

HK has been working on a caseless round/electronicly fired concept for 20 years.

Specialty target pistols aside, I would not want to end up in a court of law with that, facing ATF "experts" and zealous prosecutors who are very experienced at making anybody, no matter how innocent, look like a madman or terrorist.

depends on what size of 'noid your using but considering you can put a rod through 1/2'' plywood with 20 psi, i thing if tuned right it would have plenty of force.

Also, i know a rat trap can...

I don’t know the force needed to detonate the primer...it may be something trial and error will fix, After you find out the legalities of course.
