Default Ohio Shotgun Capacity

Advertise Here

I know for deer, turkey and migratory birds you can only have a shotgun capable of holding 3 shells; 2 in the tube, 1 in the chamber in Ohio... What about for coyote or rabbit hunting, still the 3 shell max or can I pull this plug out???

I have the hardest time finding answers to my questions on the ODNR website so any help is much appreciated..

im not sure about this but i believe its 3 shells for hunting any game. IF you are target shooting there is no restrictions at all though. Im not sure about this but its like that in canada.

As far as I know the plug is for migratory waterfowl only. I did read through some of the laws in Ohio, and it seems reasonable to assume that any legal firearm for hunting is also legal for fur bearing critters. Here is a link to the hunting regulations and laws, I saw nothing about using a magazine restricting device in any firearm not used for migratory waterfowl.

I really had to dig for a while to find this and got it confirmed by another guy that's hunted over 20 yrs here in Ohio, apparently there's the 3 shell limit for deer season and for migratory birds.... No shell capacity for rabbit, squirrel, turkey, wild hog or coyote hunting. Which is good b/c I've rabbit hunted on state park land the last 2 weekends without a plug

the point of sport hunting is to be a challenge. if you can't hit something in 3 shots, my guess is you shouldn't be out there to begin with. lol
