Eco Twister Review

This is a review of the Eco Twister by Sun. Even though the name of the flashlight is spelled “twister” all over the internet, the correct spelling is Eco Twist’R.

Some of the really cool things about this flashlight – there are no external crank handles that can break off, the lens has 3 magnifying lens, and behind the lenses are 3 bright LEDs. At the rear of the handle is a lanyard attachment.

Unlike flashlights that have an external crank handle, the Eco Twist’R is charged by twisting the tail end. As soon as the end is twisted, the lights power up.

The on/off switch is conveniently located where the thumb naturally rest on the flashlight. Its a push button switch – once for on and once again for off. There is no strobe option, but that aint no big deal.

When the flashlight was received from EDC Depot, one of the first things that stood out was how well the flashlight fit the hand. Its about 5 inches long and about 1 1/2 inches at the widest point. This means that the flashlight is long enough to fit in the hand very well, but slim enough not to be too bulky.

So, what can you do with a flashlight like this? The answer would be – just about anything. One thing to consider is a flashlight for kids. When the power goes out, having a hand crank flashlight that can be handed out to kids would be really nice. That way you dont have to worry about batteries. Kids will be kids and they will leave the light on and run the batteries down. In a lights out situation having several hand crank flashlights on hand can come in really handy.



The next thing is using a dynamo powered flashlight in a backpack. When your getting ready for a hiking or camping trip, having a hand crank flashlight is one less thing you have to worry about.

By attaching a clamp to the lanyard attachment, the light can be hung from the strap on the inside of the pack. That way its always easy to find – even in pitch black darkness, all you have to do is unzip the pack, reach in and grab the light. If the batteries are dead, just give the tail end a few cranks and you have instant light.

The description of the flashlight says that 1 minute of crank time will supply about 10 minutes of light. From my experiment, that is about right. The flashlight was cranked for exactly 1 minute and set down on a table. At 10 minutes later it was still shining.

Overall, I give the Eco Twist’R an A rating. And I give EDC Depot an A+ rating for good packing and quick delivery time.

I use a retractable badge lanyard (the kind some office workers put their ID badge on) with a squeeze light on it. If you do not get them from work they are available cheap from stationary stores. I have a cheap one clipped to my GOOD bag. It is not a great light but is enough to see what I am doing in the bag.

The older style retractable key chains might be better for a heavier light.
