Default Catholic Church Invests in Guns, Tobacco, and Birth Control

http://sf.carnalnation.com/content/1...-birth-control

The Roman Catholic Church's bank has invested in weapon-maker BAE Systems, birth control manufacturer Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, and an assortment of tobacco companies.

The Roman Catholic Church may not like sex or violence, but apparently that doesn't mean that its bankers can't make an honest buck or two off it. Pax-Bank "The Bank of Church and Caritas" (Latin: charity), which promotes "ethical" investment funds and business practices that are consistent with Catholic doctrine, has found itself in the embarrassing situation having to admit that it's been investing in guns, birth-control pills, and tobacco.

Der Spiegel printed an article revealing that the bank had invested about $826,000 in BAE Systems, a British arms company; $230,000 in Wyeth Pharmaceuticals; and about $1,252,000 in various tobacco companies.
Pax-Bank isn't just owned by Catholics; the bank was originally founded in 1917 to serve the Church and its institutions. On Pax-Bank's website, they describe their commitment to the Church and its values as one of the primary reasons customers should bank with them:

The Church needs excellent performance for their investments that cannot be contrary to their Christian values. Since 1917, Pax-Bank has achieved the balance between high performance and Christian values through its own philosophy: concentrating exclusively on Catholic institutions as its customers, Pax-Bank orientates its business objectives and products following Christian ideals. The entrusted capitals are invested with the Catholic Church in mind, with maximum responsibility and transparency. Investments which contravene Christian principles are excluded. This we guarantee with our name. (Emphasis added.)

its called investing. The capitalist world is still sometimes known for vague, arcane practices such as this. Kind of like how Obama and Holder invested a few hundred grand worth of Baxter Pharmaceutical stock and now magically they have not only the sole contract for producing the swine flu 'vaccine' but absolve them of any wrongdoing BEFORE it's even synthesized.

Instead of debunking a source try researching it from another source, but doing a Google search is probably too simple

those good italian catholics have to bank somewhere,
so indirectly they're making money off drugs, prostitution and gambling too.

More evil has been done in the name of "God" than I care to consider, and setting aside your "morals" for money and power is commonplace. Not even a little bit surprised about this.

WTF is "carnal nation"??

http://www.thelocal.de/national/20090802-20983.html

Looks like the bank is selling its shares. This is in the conspiracy section, why?

BTW, the name of the bank is "Pax Bank", not "The Roman Catholic Church's bank".

Does anyone really expect consistency from the Catholic Church?

As usual, anti-catholic ranting goes on here as well as everywhere else. The church would not knowlingly invest in a company or stocks that provide services contrary to its teachings. When it finds out such a thing happens, it changes direction, and divests itself of those stocks or investments. But of course the anti -catholics that abound everywhere are not about to accept that. For Catholics, there's never freedom from persecution, even in this country.

On a side note, I've gotta say: those investments are were pretty good. I wouldn't hesitate to buy BAE or WP.

Conveniently left out the last line in the article:
Director Winifred Hinzen has publicly apologized for the bank's "mistake" and said that the relevant shares would be sold immediately.
But hey, I'm sure the Pope was going over this bank's books and approving everything...
