If I'm not mistaken, Wormwood is in reference to the whole Planet X/Nibiru theory. A thread discussing this here: http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=9114

There is a lot of discussion and web sites regarding planet x and it's relationship to the Mayan calender and the whole 2012 end of age scenario. I think they say the orbit of this planet is 3,600 years.

In 20011 or 2011?

The star or asteroid Wormwood is biblical. In the book of Revelations. It is supposed to make a third of the water supply undrinkable(if I'm not mistaken) and will happen during the time of tribulation. Many will die from the effects of it.

There is speculation among biblical scholars that the star or asteroid signifies a leader that will quickly come to power, do devastating things, and then disappear.

This is true, Wormwood is in the book of Revelations.

Rev 8:11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

There are some theories that Wormwood and planet x are one and the same.

There is always going to be some group or person that is going to call some comet/planet Wormwood in order to link it to prophecy.

I mean if I was a scientist/astrologist/etc, I would NOT NAME anything Wormwood just for that purpose LOL

There is some debate about that though. Literally means "black grass" but is Chernobyl= ChORNobyle=wormwood? I dont know any Ukranian but I know in other languages, slight differences in spelling or even pronunciation are completely different meanings.

Of course it is from wikipedia which must always be taken with a grain of salt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernob..._consciousness

The conventional explanation for the name Chernobyl has been that it means 'black grass' or 'black stalks'. In attempting to link the events of the nuclear accident to biblical prophesies, it has been claimed (see Schemann reference below) that the name of the city comes rather from a Ukrainian word chornobylí, and that this word refers to the mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). Mugwort is a close relative of wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). As a result, chornobylí has been translated by some to be the equivalent of the English name wormwood.

This translation is a matter of extreme controversy, as are other aspects of the prophecy. Some may claim the Bible is speaking metaphorically, whilst others do not see any connection whatsoever. Further analogies include the reference to a "star" as the equivalent of an "uncontrolled nuclear meltdown" like Chernobyl and "burning as a lamp" as an analogy for a relatively small contained nuclear reaction burning on Earth when compared with the "great stars" in heaven. Therefore, these analogies could be seen to link Chernobyl to a prophecy for some who read the Bible. However, critics point out the partially far-fetched nature of said analogies, as there was no falling involved in the accident and above prophecy could as well point to ICBMs carrying nuclear warheads.

The idea of a Chernobyl-wormwood link appears to have spread to the West with a The New York Times article by Serge Schmemann ("Chernobyl Fallout: Apocalyptic Tale", July 25, 1986) in which an unnamed "prominent Russian writer" was quoted as claiming the Ukrainian word for wormwood was chernobyl.

Is wormwood or its present day explanation of radioactive waste the reason The Army of 200 million invade the middle east. They won't be looking for oil but for water.

Anwar Sadat made a statement that the only reason Egypt would go to war is over water.

Haven't heard anything about events in 19000 let alone 20011. How about worry about things more relevant to your own situation?

The star was called Wormwood, not as a name, but because of what it made a third of the water to taste like. According to Scripture, the water will be made bitter as wormwood.

Wormwood itself is a very bitter herb, hence the comparison to it.

Name the asteroid or comet what you will, it won't make a difference.

That is, if you believe the bible to be the holy word of God, which I do.

Remember, though, that there are various interpretations of the book of revelation that are considered acceptable within the pale of orthodoxy.

Revelation is a book of symbols especially couched in the Old Testement...ie: Christ is called the lamp stand etc...be careful with equating faith in God or belief that the bible is the word of God based upon interpretation of symbols in the book of revelation.

At this time there are about a dozen newly recorded bodies of small mass. Not one indication of any large inbound objects. Nothing can hide behind the sun.... because we orbit the sun and will see behind it within a few weeks no matter where we are in orbit.

No worries or indications at this time. Extra thick foil used.

Well, yes, that's true and pretty obvious. It's been done who knows how many times in the past. There have been some in the past who have called Halley's Comet or even Hale Bopp Wormwood. It looks like these people were wrong.

As far as this whole Nibiru thing being Wormwood...Who knows? I'm not even sure if Nibiru exists, but it could.

That makes 2 of us....but, IMHO, I think when some people use the word Wormwood in conjunction with an asteroid/comet/planet, I tend to believe that it's not the actual name of the asteroid/comet/planet, but more of what some people believe will be the function of said asteroid/comet/planet....that they believe it's possible that this body will have severe and apocalyptic influences here on Earth. Again, just my opinion on the context of the word, Wormwood.
