I know that water can be boiled to remove normal bacteria and what not... So post NBC, will anything work besides iodine work?

Well, here is the best Free info about food, water, shelter etc. pre and post NBC mainly nuclear but can also be applied to other situations. www.oism.org/nwss

About water > http://www.oism.org/nwss/s73p919.htm

A good water filter such as Berkey or Katadyn etc. would be good but if not available then the above info is good and cheap and usually easily available...

Interesting. So typical improvised filter will do most of the work if done right... I think boiling after is probably a good idea any way but if it really comes down to it, you do what you can...

Definetly boil or if u have electricity get a distilling unit..That's why when city wells have a problem they issue a boil order....I have had my own distilling unit over 15 years and it pays for itself....
