Default What kind of alcohol would you stock?

Advertise Here

I have an occasional hard lemonade but never been much of a drinker. (First drink at age 27, I'm slow)

I would like to stock some liquor for medicinal use.

My wife has to take strong narcotics and when she runs out of them has bad withdraw. We have used vodka in the past to help her through difficult times but I'm not sure what would be the best to have available.

What would/do you stock? Why?

Any ideas would be great.

Well I have never distilled but you can brew pretty easy and if you can work a simple still of course I am assuming this would be if there was no longer any law against it is a shtf scenario . there is a legal home brew that is older than beer called mead it is a honey wine all you need is the honey the yeast and water and you can do different things to flavor it but it can be as much as 15% alchohol and it ferments to that degree in as early as 10 to 14 days which is really quick I don't think most beers brew that fast if you e-mail me and your over 21 I can tell you how to make it it is the strongest non distilled alcoholic beverage that you can make for the least amount of money and in the fastest turn around I have not figured out what to do to make reliable yeast source once all the brew stores close I should start working on that as kev says plan plan plan : )

Forgot about 151 and everclear.....

I would also attempt to make 'shine. I've been wanting to for a few years, but have never pursued it.

I'm going to be brewing more wine In all varieties. Some beer. Then as far as strong alcohol ... I'll probably go along with the consensus. Stock up on some vodka, scotch (single malt and el-cheapo), maybe some rum and whatever is 'bargain basement'.

Also folks don't forget to stock up on isoprol/rubbing alcohol ... not to drink but for the ole medicine chest. We buy it every chance we get from the dollar stor - two bottles for a buck can't be bad.

Vodka. You can use it for drinking, cleaning, medical needs, you can fill up your car with it.

One thing to think about is a small still. You can boil the alcohol out of any alcoholic beverage. Alcohol boils at 172.4F vs water at 212F. A thermometer, boiler, condenser and a catch container is all you need to make high proof alcohol from anything containing ethyl alcohol.

Default whatever

I buy Corbel brandy by the case.

I like to have a couple of big bottles of burbon whiskey on hand.

If you like me, you will get me a nice bottle of single malt scotch for my birthday.

When backpacking, everclear (stove fuel and cocktail in one!)

if you want to store it for medical use i would get bacardi 151, or everclear pure grain alcohol 200 proof.these are highly concentrated and you need to mix it with something before you drink it.they are so strong that you can set them on fire.but you will not have to drink as much to do the job

if you want it for a trade item incase of economic collapse. i would get stuff that you cant be easly made or is not made in the U.S. like tequila ,or vodka ,maybe rum, schnapps, gin, scotch. rum and tequila would be perfered (probably have the highest demand outside of wiskey)

I was probably 12 or 13 when I started drinking seriously. I grew up in the projects, the gas stations didn't care how old you were. Also my sister would throw these parties and I would drink with them. Which as an adult kind of bothers me. She really still hasn't grown up. I would never give a kid alcohol.

In fact I actually have a drink right now. Jeez I suck.

Don't store alcohol. If the S has HTF, then you can make it. Or you can legally make your own wine. I prefer blueberry wine. In my opinion, I think its the best wine in the Universe. I am a sniper when it comes to making Desert wines. Maybe oneday I will make a bunch of bottles and give them to you guys for free.

As long as your not 12.

You should take a look at this thread...http://www.survivalistboards.com/sho...light=valerian
and scroll down to the post about valerian. It sounds like it might be something that could help your wife after SHTF.

I plan to stock cheap Vodka. It's fairly pure alcohol, strong enough for disinfecting if need be.

And, I plan to stock a fair amount of Bourbon, well, just because.

I wonder if barter is a good idea. I'd be afraid the guys that are bartering for booze would follow me home for the entire stash...at gunpoint.

I would keep a small stash of my favorite hard stuff - stores more compact than beer or 'lemonade.
