Default Question about liquid pectin pouches

Advertise Here

Hi
I have an old Ball "Blue Book" for home canning and it mentions pouches of liquid pectin. I can't get those here, I don't think. I am hoping someone here knows about them and can tell me more about them - i.e. exact ingredients, and how much a pouch contains!

I'm hoping to be able to use some of the recipes I have from this book and an OK extension booklet, but some of the recipes I'd like to try have pouches of liquid pectin as an ingredient.

thanks!

I might ask the OK extention how much pectin is in these pouches and then substitute apples or some other natural sources of pectin for that same amount. Maybe if you shared a recipe there might be people here that would know approx. how much is needed for a substitute. I've never used store bought pectin as there are planty of natural sources so I'm afraid I can't help you, but maybe others can.

Thanks Squirrel. Someone at the ex. office might well be able to tell me - thank God for email!

I'll try to post a recipe when I get a little more time on the computer.

Thanks galen73! Glad to see someone else in the UK. (I'm from the US but live in England - my dh is English).

I've found out the you can get liquid pectin here - it's called Certo.

I also found out that the liquid pectin pouches contained other things and held about 3 fl oz. So I can see if Certo would be about the same in content and then I could measure out what I needed.

I imagine some of my other recipes ask for powdered pectin so I will probably get some on my next order.
