Welcome to the forum.

Yes they are good. Buy it and shoot it, if you do not like it you can sell it for the same price.

I loved mine

I own 2 of them and no problems. Check to see if the front sight post is properly aligned....you have to look down the barrel to do that...I had one that was not and had to get it fixed....other than that very good Freedom Defense Rifle!!

MOst AKs today are not true European guns. Most are built up on American made receivers with parts kits from countries like Romania, Poland, the Old Yugoslavia, Bulgaria. Look at the gun for fit and finish. Is the front site dead on. If the site is canted to one side the barrel may be off. When you draw back the bolt is the action smooth? SOme are better and than others but all are good. Price is good.

Make sure "G2" is on the left side of the trigger, the sites are straight and the mags lock in w/o a problem and then buy it.

I have a Romanian WASR10 with over 17,000 rounds through it, and know of several with over 50K...

WASRs tend to have canted front sight bases and out of spec lower-receivers.My WASR's lower receiver was so out of spec that it wouldn't feed ammunition properly. I had to re-dremel the mag well before it would hold the magazine properly. Its a hit and miss when dealing with the WASR. Enter at your own risk. $500 could get you a low-grade Bulgarian made AK.

I have two, and my girl has her own, and a decent hand-picked WASR will serve you well.

You didn't specify if you're refering to a WASR or a G model Romanian. There's a noticable difference. I'm gonna assume from the $500 price tag that it's the WASR.
The WASR's have already been well and accurately covered in the above posts, so that leaves the G models.
The G models are the military grade Romanians, and if assembled properly from nice kits are great AK's. I have a Lancaster that is gorgeous, and has been perfectly reliable and accurate since minute-one, and from what I've read, my experience isn't unique. Romy's rock !!

The prices have sure gone up since I bought mine. ..but, what hasn't gone up in price.
I have had no trouble with mine (2). Fun to shoot. Simple and rugged. I like the 7.62x39 round. Go for it. You'll never wear it out. Great for what it was designed for. Not a 600 meter weapon. lol The most produced weapon in the world, I believe. The Romanians are fine. Like the poster above said,.. if you don't like it,.. re-sell it.

no, mosin nagant. over 17 million produced in WWII IN RUSSIA alone. proabaly at least 30 million made by several countries over its significant military service life (1880 somethin' to the late 1960's) and almost everyone is still good today. lol the last time most of them were cleaned was in 1944 in some factory probably.

Great guns. Don't let the haters discourage you. Mine goes bang every time and is accurate enough for what I need it for.

Yes they use the same round but, the AK's and SKS's use the European ammo that measures at around .311-.312 at the bore. The mini 30 I think measures at .308 at the bore. I would use the American made ammo for the mini 30.

Hi again. I was going by this article that says an estimated 90 million + AKs have been produced worldwide. But, who's counting. Whatever the number, there sure are lots of 'em ! lol ( I love my mosin nagant too. I want a Russion one next )
