Question Bear vs 22lr 10/22 or american 180

Advertise Here

If I could carry 8 rifles and 1000 rounds per rifle plus supplies for a year in a hummer followed by a gas truck, there would be no question... BUT the question is how much trouble would I have with a bear vs. 22lr and letís say itís a tricked and tuned 10/22 and I can hit what I aim at. What are your thoughts???

An early demise from this world, especially a brown bear. He'd have fun popping your head open like a walnut, while you fed rounds into him with a .22lr.

Bear should have a nice meal. I have shot deer clean through the heart and they still ran a mile, what do you think a ****ed off bear is gonna do?

Seriously the only way to guarantee you are stopping an animal in his tracks is paralyze it, that's why I shoot my deer in the spine/shoulder not only paralyzes them but the shards spray into the chest cavity and kill them almost instantly. Course a .22 most likely wouldn't do any of that.

Its a good lesson for you hunters out there in a survival situation are you planning on spending hours tracking your kill? I won't be I will have it cleaned and dressed before many people would have found it in my neck of the woods.

Next up: .223 vs Aliens. I mean if you had an ion ray gun that would be one thing but what if you only had an AR with you when they landed??? Chances?

If you can get a shot from the .22 into its brain, you may have a chance to live.

If not, you may as well shoot yourself in the foot and run towards the bear.

It might confuse him long enough for you to plunge your swiss army knife into his jugular.

My thoughts? Have you ever been shot with a BB gun and got ****ed off? Flesh wound comes to mind, followed closely by the picture in my mind of a bear crapping out a 10/22 with sneakers and a baseball hat.

Could you possibly kill one? Sure, and there are hundreds of Eskimos that will tell you about using a .22 for large game. Do I recommend it? Not a chance. They can accomplish it, but that doesn't mean they are using the best tool for the job, nor does it mean that it is actually a recommended practice.

That would be like shooting your Dad with a Daisy BB Gun in the Head as a 7 year old Kid and waiting for his reaction

I would say take the first shot to get it good and mad than try your best to poke it in the eye with the barrel when it charges you. You will probably end up as fecal matter though.

Cool I'm not crazy!!! Well mabe

First off I would never hunt a Bear (any type) with a 22lr.

Second I have laughed and laughed at your responses.

Third I would prefer if the stuff hit the fan to be lite and fast. A 45 auto hand gun, a 300 wm rifle would be nice but if you can’t carry it or resupply it then it’s useless. You can do a lot with a tricked out fine tuned 10/22, you can pack a bunch of ammo and not waste your money on stuff we all would like to have. I guess I will have to add my SW686 with hot 357 for that bear that I will work so hard to avoid.

I wouldnt even bet on your odds against the bear with a .357 revolver. And who keeps talking about brain shots? please stop it. The only thing that will bust a bear skull (the full-grown dangerous type) is a .30-06, .300 WSM, .454 Casul, or a sledgehammer. A .44 mag maybe-if its from a rifle.

LOL

Black bears are taken in this state all the time with .30-.30's, .308...

While I wouldn't want to tangle with a bear via anything smaller than say... .270, a gun beats the heck out of a pointy stick.

Bears kind of have this invinceable status, and I'm not sure why. They will die just like any other creatrue breathing.

Ideally for grizz I think you'd want...a .338. Ideal condtions however, probably won't be present if the country is ruled ny anarchy.

Honestly if I ran into a bear in the wild, and I only had a .22 semi-auto, I would empty the clip then pull out my knife and hope I can get the bear under the jaw. Of course that would only be if the bear charged me. If it was content on leaving me alone I would back up and count my lucky stars.

Default black bear

my dad and I were squirrel hunting in AK in the winter when we came upon a black bear. I think we scared it out of it's den. After following it for a ways it went up a tree. My dad gave me the 10/22 and said go for it. I aimed straight up and started shooting. After a few shots it fell out of the tree. My dad chased after it and emptied the clip. It weighed about 200 lbs and had a layer of fat an inch thick under the skin. We boiled out gallons of lard from the fat. The next year we went back with a 12 guage and slugs and got another. We found the bears denned on a steep hill under a bunch of fallen trees.
However, do NOT try this with Brown bears. They are much tougher and taste like rotten salmon.
