Communications for Emergency Preparedness
Hello fellow Preppers....
I have been working on several You Tube Videos, and I have three on Comms so far, and I plan to make another very soon.
I am highlighting the use of AFFORDABLE HT (Handheld) radios for EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS communications.
I have several HT's, but I focus on the BaoFeng UV-5R (one of the most popular) and the Baofeng UV-B5 (and B6).
These are AMATEUR radios, and as such you SHOULD be at least a TECHNICIAN class AMATEUR radio licensed operator to operate one of these radios.
I have developed DATA files to program these two radios, as well as the Wouxun UV6D.
All of the programs are the same, and include the 22 GMRS/FRS channels (as found on the Motorola Talk About radios) as well as the 5 MURS channels, 7 Noaa Weather channels (receive mode only), Marine DISTRESS channel 16 (receive mode only) and the LDS SHTF channel.
****NOTE**** Using these HT radios on the channels programmed is ILLEGAL any time other than an EMERGENCY.... These HT's, while capable of operating on the FRS/GMRS/MURS frequencies are ILLEGAL for a whole host of reasons, from output power levels being much higher to regulations like requirements for FIXED antennas and FCC required approvals.
You will need a radio, the downloaded program, and a programming cable to install the file's on your radio.
I will gladly email the file for any of the above listed radios to anyone interested.

I have a couple sets of these for comms
As far as illegal to use unless it's an emergency, not sure what you mean.
The UV6D is part 90 certified for commercial use (http://www.wouxun.us/item.php?item_i...category_id=46) as is the 6Xs I have (http://www.powerwerx.com/two-way-rad...ommercial.html)
Or do you mean using your special data files you created makes using the radio illegal?

I'm sure you mean to say, usage of ham and GMRS frequencies by unlicensed people is illegal, right? FRS and MURS and Simplex don't require licensing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Use_Radio_Service - no license needed
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General..._Radio_Service -license needed
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio_Service - no license needed unless tx 5w+ on channels 1-7 (then it's considered GMRS I believe)
