Default 2 Questions: Stag Arms AR-15's and 6.8mm

Advertise Here

Any reviews on Stag Arms AR-15's? I am initially pleased that they seem to cater to us leftys, at least more than most manufacturers...and that being said, what is the boards opinion about the 6.8mm option rather than the .223? I have searched over and over again here for "6.8mm" and get a whopping ZERO hits. Is availability of this ammunition going to be prohibitive? Because of the current panic-rush on guns and ammo, it's hard to get an accurate idea of what is actually more difficult to obtain; EVERYTHING is sold out online.
Thanks in advance for any reviews, tips and pointers!

I have built a bunch of ARs on Stag lowers. Not a bit of trouble out of any of them. That said, I don't know a thing about their finished product or other parts.
Personally I would stick with a 223/556 AR. Ammo and parts are much more available and affordable.

IMHO Stag is as good as anybody else. I would stick to .223 in a caliber unless you want to get into reloading though.

I just bought a stag last month. I love it - have had no problems with it at all.

Dont have too many rounds through it yet, but will be putting more through it soon.

I would recommend against the 6.8 ammo just for the simple fact of availability. I use 5.56 and .308. These seem to be the most common and easy to find. Just my .02

Does the Stag make a .308 upper? I really wanted to go 6.8mm, mainly because it would be my compromise between an AK and an AR...I really wanted a little beefier round than the .223 (I know...I know...no need to expound on the pros of the popular .223!), but after looking around I have to admit that it seems MUCH harder to come by, and I'd hate my stubbornness to leave me rationing my scarce and expensive ammunition.
What I REALLY wanted to look into was the Bushmaster ACR/Magpul Masada, but it doesn't seem that will be available any time soon...AND even thou it's "ambidextrous", the Stag can be a TRUE left handed firearm...

I dont think that they do. I know that DPMS does, and I think that Bushmaster does.

I almost bought the DPMS .308 but found out that if you use reloaded ammo the warranty is void - also they say not to use mil surplus 7.62 ammo as the pressures are higher than civilian .308.

I went with the 5.56 and will be getting a bolt action .308.

As for a a beefier .223 round - use HP instead of FMJ. It will get you more knockdown (not as much as .308 - I know, I know - but better than FMJ that goes right through)

Got lots of money ammo is expensive for the 6.8 but worth it.Light years more accurate the the 7.62x39 and a lot more punch then the 5.56x45 or 5.45x39 it is a real man stopper .The "optimum intermediate cartridge was a .280 cal" according to the post ww2 studies.parts and mags will be harder to find and more expensive (which is why I don't have one yet)Those who have used it in the sandbox that I have talked to swear by it.The ar15 imho is a great shooter but more susceptible to dirt and parts breakage .(I wish they made the sig550 in 6.8 or a 6.8 ak)

Thanks for that...sometimes "hearing it" makes it more clear than reading the techno-jargon and industry write ups. The .223 is a bit less expensive as well...
Does ANYBODY prefer the 6.8mm?
