Shelia opened the folder, and sipped her tea.
Suddenly, the tea shot out of her nose, violently, and she began to gag. The images before her, in living color on glossy photo paper were shocking. Fences, crowned with Razor wire, like she saw when she drove past the county jail, filled with people, men, women and children, all wearing blue jeans and white tshirts, lined up, with men in full Biological protective suits, walking down the line sticking people with what looked to her like a ray gun.
"What, what is that?" She gasped.
"As far as my sources have been able to determine, it's an RFID implant injector, like is used to microchip lost dogs. Speaking of dogs, hang on."
He got up, walked to the toolbox that doubled as a coffee table, picked up a studfinder, and ran it over the dog's neck, back and legs.
"What are you doing?"
"Checking for microchips, it looks like your little stray is clean, which is a good thing, they can't track us through her."
"They?"
"Keep looking, there are more pictures"
He walked to the Shaker shelves, took down a mixing bowl, and filled it with water, setting it on the kitchen floor for the dog, who came up and drank greedily.
Shelia, looked through the pictures, gasping at the sight of people being loaded into boxcars from the fenced area, men into one, women into another, and children, some barely able to walk on their own into yet another, all guarded by men and women in Biohazard suits, carrying large weapons.
"Where, where are they taking them?"
"To relocation camps, like I told you."
"Yes, but why, I mean, why are they splitting up families?"
"Morale, control, pick one, it's the Government, they don't have to use logic as we recognize it."
She looked through more of the photos, as the trains left the fenced in area, black, unmarked cars, on rails that vanished into the distance, with armed guards dressed in black, balaclavas covering their faces, on the top of the cars, and on the last car.
"Why are there armed guards? None of these people have guns."
"To keep people calm, easier to control, to prevent them from thinking because they are too afraid. Fear makes people easy to control. Look how readily you obeyed me when you felt that we were in danger."
"You mean, we weren't in danger?"
"No, I didn't say that, I just was pointing out to you how easy it was for you to obey me, a total stranger, not even an authority figure, when you felt I could protect you."
Shelia sat, stunned by the realization of how easily he had manipulated her into his underground lair.
"Now, you are safe here Shelia, and I will do everything in my power to see that you stay that way. I can't allow you to leave here, unfortunately you could give away the location to easily under questioning. I didn't mean to bring you here, but it can't be undone now. You're here, as is this dog. Which adds a new layer to things, since I didn't plan to have a dog here, and will need to find food for her. It is a her, right?"
"Ye..Yes, at least, I think she is, I didn't see any boy parts" She blushed.
"Well, you must be exhausted. We're safe enough for right now, why don't you take the dog into the bedroom with you, and lie down?"
Suddenly aware of her exhaustion, Shelia got up, walked to the bedroom as she had been told, took off her shoes, lay down on top of the comforter, and fell deeply asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow, assisted a bit by the ground up sleeping pill Doug had slipped into her tea.
"That should put you out for at least 6 hours," Doug thought to himself "after that, I'm not sure what to do with you."
He walked over to the cage, stepped inside, carefully latching the door behind him.
He picked up the microphone and earphones, connecting them to the radio, then connecting the radio to his battery set.
