Default Spartan buckshot

Hey guys I just saw spartan buckshot at acadamey sports. It's about 13.00 dollars a box for 25 rounds. Seems like a decent deal. Does anyone have any experience with this ammo. Just wondering if it's worth buying. Thanks.

Yeah I thought it was a pretty good deal. I got two boxes and going to try it in my Brownings to see how well it does. And try it in one of my 870s too.

Rio is selling buckshot in 25 rd boxes, is there some reason they decided to sell buck and slugs in a 5 rd box?

Rio is calling them game loads, they carry it at the LGS. 25rd of 20 ga #3 buck for $15.

I'd like to try some of the rio. I'm in tn a lot for work. If you don't care what lgs would that be. I'm close to Nashville when I come to tn.

People drive to this LGS from Nashville and all around as they have always treated people good. Little place called Belk grocery near Smithville. A bit of a drive about 1 1/2 from Nashville proper. I could walk there from the house.

Yes.. I have experience with Spartan.
noticed it also at Academy...made in the EU...not sure where in the EU..but that's what the box says.

it doesn't identify itself as "low brass/low recoil" but when yo look at it, you can see that they are definitely a lighter load...brass is much lower than a good Federal etc.
I wanted to try some as it was the cheapest I could find and I needed some to break in my new autoloader shotgun.
it runs fine..seems to be consistent quality and it would do in a pinch for hunting/self defense needs I'm sure.
I just consider it cheap range ammo and I've put 4 boxes (100rds) through my mossberg 930 without any issues.
mind you, my mossberg is NOT one of those "eat anything" that some guys are enjoying..my 930 will still not cycle even the heaviest most powerful turky loads etc...I say this not to knock the gun, just to help you understand that the Spartan does at least have enough pep and of course the 00 buck provides the load needed for the inertia.
if you're running a pump gun..no worries..it shoots clean and consistent

Rio buckshot is good stuff. I wouldn't load it for HD because of it's spread (but then again I wouldn't use any buckshot for HD that wasn't #00 and flight control) but its great for practicing. At $13 for a box of 25 high brass #00 I not use it at the range rather than bird shot.

I don't know about Rio, but I've seen Sellier & Bellot buckshot in clear plastic shells w/low-brass mountings. The lead balls are stacked in the shell without any filler. Federal, Remington, Winchester and other larger name brands use a fine granulated polymer as filler for buckshot shells to keep the shot pattern more uniform. I've seen unfilled buckshot shells (reloads) throw patterns that can only be described as chaotic. The old-timers used to use cornmeal as filler to tame the shot pattern on their reloads, so this concept has been around a long time. Open up one of those Rios, and see if they are using any type of filler with them. If they don't, you may want to stay away from them, unless you can find a way to add some.
