I just found a new Colt 6920 for $1599.00. This is not my only AR but I would like to have it. Tell me if it is a buy or don't buy price for you.

They were hovering around $1,100 - 1,200 prior to the panic. Prices are coming down from the $2,500 days....

I paid $1095 for mine. I wouldn't buy at $1,599.

Given the recent increases it is fairly reasonable. Much better deal than people paying $1600 for a DPMS oracle or M&P sport.

With the way prices are on AR's right now, might as well buy the best. Buy it at $1600 and then if they ever come down again, buy a 2nd one and average the prices.

Can't just have one.

Considering I saw CTD selling a 6920 for $3800, I'd call it a fair price in today's world. I didn't own an AR during the 1994 ban, but I heard (so its not credible) the prices slightly went up and stayed there post ban. I'd probably say around an extra $200. Don't take my word on it cause I was like 10 years old then

So I'm guessing if history repeats itself, the prices will go down but not back to $1,100 which is what I paid for my 6920. I'd probably say it'll come down to around $1,300. In short, if you got money to blow, then might as well grab one of the top AR's around (I didn't say the best, I said top).

So how much did a pre 1994 Colt AR cost? And how much was it post ban? Just for some data and analysis.

$600 or so pre-ban and over-night they jumped up to around $1200, IIRC. According to my 1993 Shooter's Bible they retailed for $850 to $950, but I don't remember them actually ever being that high. Pretty much doubled in value like they have during this "scare"...

I know I was mad back in the day because summer of '94 I sold a Bushmaster I had and then a couple months later the ban went through and the same Bushmaster was worth twice what I sold it for...

new stags for 1000.00 to 1300.00 is standard so 1200.00 is about right for pre-scare. stag is not taking orders for any ARs right now and are back ordered for atleast one year.

My local gunshop in NH just got some 20 AR's in stock. M&P15's 5.56. I walked in today and was surprised at how much they had. Of course hardly any mags and no ammo. A semi was pulling in and unloading another pallet of ARs as I was leaving, again all smiths. I would bet they have been getting some in steadily with no ammo to sell them with. Price was $1259. I think they had some sport models for around $850. They all came with PMAGS as well. Considering the environment, not a bad deal. If I needed one I would have picked one up.

Although they were going for around $1100 six months ago, $1600 is a pretty good price in today's market. They were going for around $1800 at the gun show in Corpus last week, and the one marked "Restricted Law Enforcement Only" was priced over 3k. Grab it if you want one, I've spent more money on much dumber things!

Good point, that's what i did, made sure i had one, then, when they came down, bought a couple more. It averages out to a pretty fair price.

My local gun store had an M&P Sport on the shelf for $799 the other day.
My local Walmart also gets Colts in for the $1100 range. But is this a stock rifle? Extras add value. Plus your local market might be different. It's priced on the edge but not la la land

I work in a gun shop and deal with the situation from the industry side. It's a little steep, I'd probably hang back. Unless you're in a place like California, where you know that rifle is for sure going to be made illegal soon, I'd hold off. We should still be concerned, but it is not time to worry -I do not think a federal bill would pass. Wait till prices return back to normal. If it was for $1,200 or maybe even $1,300 (out the door) then I'd probably say go for it, but $1,600 plus NICS and tax is too damn steep.

Anyone who says a Colt is anything other than a mid-level grade AR doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. They are not "top tier" rifles. The markings "Law Enforcement/Military Only" on a 16" 6920 is just a marketing gimmick designed to milk idiotic morons out of an extra couple hundred $$ or so.

6920s were going for $999 on CTD before the Sandy Hook incident. It's up to you personally what its worth, but that doesn't mean I won't make fun of you any less for buying a $1600 bare-bones mid level Colt any more than I made fun of the idiots who were cashing in their kid's college tuition money to buy a KAC SR-25 on Gunbroker.

If you already have an AR.....christ, just wait a bit. If you don't....well then you have to decide if a $700 mark-up is absolutely worth it.

I paid 1087 for my LE6920 early last spring and they are the same price as of two days ago at my local Wally World. I have an older LE6920 with the Law Enforcement marking that I have had for at least 20 years and it is as good now as the new one. One other alternative that my wife bought me last year is a Windham Weaponry ar that is still selling at Wal Mart is 899, and after 6,000 or so rounds has proven itself to be an accurate and dependable gun too. I absolutely feel it is every bit as good as the Colts, but the main thing it has a lifetime transferrable warranty. No one that I have ever done business with has a warranty to match that.

I have seveal 6920s. Great guns and I would pay that price to get one now. I paid a little over $400.00 less for the ones I bought back in August and September.

Great gun, you won't regret buying one.

So.... how is the most important part of an AR, the bolt carrier group, from say a LMT or BCM or (insert brand here) better than a Colt? How about the barrel?
Answer: none. Opinions are like....
