Default Mossberg mvp 556 / 223

I was reading about this rifle, the fact that it is chambered for the NATO round makes this very desirable, at least to me. A bolt action, short barrel, factory installed rail, and it uses AR15 magazines. I want one! Anyone have any good or bad feedback?

Mossberg is using their 4x4 bolt, I don't know much about it, short throw? Some reviews stated it would not run more than 8 round no matter what magazine was used. I realize this is a new gun, I just thought someone had a one. Thanks

I fondled one at a local fun store a couple of weeks ago. The bolt seemed to be a bit tough to open/close. Magazine release seemed to be in a somewhat odd spot. The stock is on a short side to an extent and if you are bigger than 5'7"-5'8" it may be a little shorter than ideal, other than that I kinda liked it. Actually liked it enough to put it on a layaway.

From what I read later on the web, the bolt tends to loosen up after a few hundred shots/cyclings. Mag release is not an issue I assume since it is a bolt gun afterwards and tactical reloadings won't be needed in most situations. As far as stock, one can always add a spacer under the recoil pad. I came across one review where a guy broke an extractor only after 30 (thirty) rounds fired but I tend to beleive it was an isolated case since the extractor is almost a copy of one that Savage utilizes in their actions and those seem to hold up. Barrels seem to be fouling a bit more during break in in compare to other entry level rifles which means that bore finish is a little rough. Otherwise it seems like a decent piece: Good accuracy for what it is, decent trigger (similar to Savage's acu-trigger) that can be set quite low and crisp, short action suited perfectly for a .223 round - no extra throw than needed.

The thing that bugs me the most about it is virtual lack of aftermarket support but then it is indeed a relatively fresh offering on the market and the situation should improve as the time goes if it doesn't have major issues with those who got it first. Wanna be a guinea pig as well?

Have one with a nikon M 223 on it. I love it so much i bought a second one. Tack driving accuracy, compact, fluted heavy barrel, and a very nice trigger. The only bad thing i have found out so far is that it doesnt like my 20 round magpul mags. It works best with the metal GI mags.

We have one at work on the rental range and it's held up extremely well. Hasn't broken and works excellently, plus does about 1.2" at 100 yards with a great shot with factory ammo -I'm sure with a good reloader and shooter it could be sub-MOA, but haven't seen it yet -but then again we haven't tried. Customers like it because it's got a big muzzle flash and it tends to be louder than most rifles of it's class.

I like it because it is chambered in 5.56mm and takes AR15 magazines. I'd put a A2 birdcage on it and maybe an EOTech with a magnifier or ACOG or something. Interesting ideas... Maybe I'd just suppress it with an ACOG. Lots of possibilities.

Do you have a local place that would do an out of state transfer for not too much? They pop up on gunbroker and such pretty regularly.
