Default My GHB - what am I lacking?

Advertise Here

I live and work in the mountains, and if I had to hoof it, it's a 6 mile hike over the mountains from work to home. That's the primary purpose of my bag, but I also keep it with me for travelling anywhere, so there is a secondary purpose as well.

Here is what is currently in it:
Bottle of water
Survival knife. There is a compass and fire starters in the handle
Flashlight
Five 5 hour energy shots (I know I wont need that many, my bag is simply where I keep em bc I don't travel anywhere without my bag)
Food items: Jerky, canned meat (I also keep several cans of food in my office at work)
Laminated maps of neighboring states
Street map of my town.
When I travel anywhere else but to work, my Sigma 40 is in there also (I live in WV but work in the communist republic of MD)

I guess I could use some medical items and a length of rope, but I'm not sure how long. Anything else I am missing?
What kind of medical items should I have?

I guess I should add that I always keep a flashlight and a Leatherman with me at all times, so the flashlight in the bag is more or less a spare

Some ideas....

-Socks and/or footwear. Hiking even 6 miles over mountains without some decent footwear could suck. I would probably throw a pair of warm heavy wool socks in your bag. Warm dry socks can be one of the best things ever. EVER!

-Cordage. I would throw a little bit of cordage in your bag. You never know when you might need to tie something up, down, or back together. A 20' hank doesn't take up much space at all.

-Small roll of duct tape. No explanation needed.

-spare battery for your flashlight or two

-Big trash bag. So many uses. Light. Basically free.

Default GHB supplys

As for medical eqpt. You will probably do fine with a basic first aid kit from any walmart, or drug store. However, everybody is differant. So, you will most likely want to customize it some. For example: do you suffer from indegestion? If so add in some antacid tablets. Do you have any allergies. Add in some antihistemines. Next time your at the local rib shack, grab a few extra packets of hand wipes, to throw in your first aid kit. Also, make sure you have at least some asperin, great if you suspect your having an onset of a heart attack, or just pain meds. A small bottle of hand sanitizer would be a good option as well.

Not bad. I am no expert on that. I have a bag that I carry at work and would use on the way home in the GHB scenario. It has 3 extra mags for my glock, bottle water, some snacks, flashlight glow stick, asthma inhaler, knife and that is it for now. Thinking about doing more work on it as well.

I am going to address this and just say no.
There may be a knife worth a pinch of salt that has these items. I dont think you own that one.

Anyway.
first aid.
I get by with a roller bandage,a set of gloves,a maxi pad,and some bandaids. (Put a few bandaids at least for blisters),some electrical tape and some antibacterial wet wipes.(Wet wipes is also good toilet paper.)

Gloves, mask, goggles and hearing protection. just in case the first hundred meters or so of your 6 mile journey is a crap fight.

Decent torch just in case that crap fight is in the dark.

Money. because it buys you friends.

What if you get stuck in a snow storm or driving rain?

A military poncho or at least a couple 55 gallon drum liners.
Some paracord to rig a shelter.
An emergency blacket (foil type).
More water.
Gloves.
Extra wool socks.
head covering.
A real compass.
Topograhic map of your work to home route, laminated.
A couple small packs of tissues (firestarter, toilet paper, ect.)
TWO sure firestarter methods.

Basically, dress (or have available at work) clothes AND footwear for hiking home for the season and the bag should support that.

I'd add:
a Ranger Firesteel (and/or BIC lighter)
Spare .40 cal ammo/mags
Paracord bracelet
Lifestraw (or Aquamira water treatment drops...something along those lines, one bottle of water prob is not enough)
Small First Aid Kit
Extra Sock (always have dry feet, learned that in the Marines!)
Hat/cover/ball cap
Poncho (or plastic bag)
