Naturally it is a lefty who wants to remove the term limits for barry. Luckily, there are no co-sponsors YET.

Im not saying this is absolute fact, just something I seem to remember from the past. But, wasnt there not originally term limits when the country first started?

IF I remember my history correctly (and this is debatable) Im pretty sure term limits were set in place after FDR's 3rd term.

Thank you, I thought it was something like that. I believe you are correct.

It would take more than just a bill, it would take a Constitutional amendment.

Correct. FDR was grandfathered.

The two term limit was a precedent set by Washington, and it held until FDR broke it.

Well, don't put it past Dear Leader to just sign and executive order granting himself that office in perpetuity. Wouldn't be surprised if he someday soon disbands Congress and the Supremes......

George Washington established the the two-term limit precedent, and it was honored by every subsequent president up until that scumbag FDR. The 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to two terms was introduced in 1947 (during Truman's presidency, after FDR had died early in his 4th term) and was ratified in 1951. It can only be repealed by constitutional amendment, which requires 2/3rd majorities in both the Senate and the House, plus ratification by 3/4th of the states. None of that will happen.

In Canada there is no limit to how many terms a party can be in office. I see it as if a really good leader keep them in there instead of losing them to someone worse. If they aren't any good vote them out of office after one term or bad enough - enough of the population will protest and force them out before their term is ended. Happened here with the liberals aand the bloc tried to take power from the conservatives by banding together - the leader of the liberals resigned but the useless bloc didn't do anything . least down there you don't have provincial parties(state parties) in the federal level. A bit off topic but I thought I mention it

if this were finance, we'd call this an act of "irrational exuberance".

It's good to be a liberal Democrat these days.

As long as you don't mind being a brain-dead Kool-aid drinking moron. Unfortunately have a few in the family, try not to see them since they are old enough and smart enough to know better. I'm blaming it on Disney.

You Canadians still have a legitimate ballot box.

Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Even if the libtards figured out how to keep him for a third term, it still wouldn't happen.

That's exactly what the resolution is proposing

Quote:
H.J.Res.15 - Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.

I say give 'em one six year term and be done with it. Plenty of time to do whatever they are going to do and no break in the middle for running for reelection.
