Default New SHTF Guns

Advertise Here

If the ban happens, what do you believe would be the "top" gun to go after? Currently everyone wants to know if they should get the AK47 or AR15 and such, but what if they are no longer options? Sure they might be available, but who has upwards of $3,000 to spend on a gun alone then $70 per magazine. I will start by listing three guns that may become possible SHTF purchases for the newbies.

1) The famous SKS
- Still common ammunition and manufactured in the United States
- Capable of most medium sized game
- 10 round internal magazine
- Proven record of reliability

2) Benelli MR1
The MR1 has a model that has no pistol grip or folding stock thus allowing it to possibly pass the ban. It is similar to the AR15 in design yet not close enough to be considered a military copy.
- Uses standard 223 / 556
- Accepts AR15 magazines
- Gas piston system
- Benelli name should mean good accuracy and reliability

3) Ruger Gunsite Scout Carbine
- Still common ammunition and manufactured in the United States
- Capable of most medium sized game
- 10 round detachable box magazine
- Proven record of reliability
- Accurate for a 7.62x39 round

I will say as soon as the ban is made into law and the guidelines and rules are listed so everyone knows what is legal, All the manufactuers will have a new 2013 Compliant assault rifle listed on their website for sale.
None of the manufactuers are going to stop making assault rifles, they just will be Compliant to the new laws. The manufactuers will still want to cash in on the craze.

If they plan to ban pistol grips and folding stocks, its kinda hard to make an AR15 or AK47. Sure you can use a A2 stock...but you cannot get away from the pistol grip part. Unless you make it non longer mil spec or redesign the entire rifle.

My AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle will always be my choice.

Family likes pump 12 gauges...sis prefers the 10/22 takedown

1911's for sidearms for me

Glock 19 sidearms for family

I suspect lever action rifles will be the new "assault weapons" if this ban passed. I don't think it will. They will "settle" for mag caps or ten rounds and some sort of registration scheme. A full ban is a little down their road.

the ruger scout is 7.62x51 (.308) not 7.62x39 and it is a hell of a good rifle I own one and if was forced to take only one with me the scout would be the one (yes I would pick it over my aks, ar15s and even the ptr-91)

Demlockian a ak without a pistol grip is already made. There are saigas that are very near identical to a ak but with a more traditional rifle butt.

My choices:

SKS

Ruger Scout Rifle

M1 Garand.

However, because they could be the "next best substitute", it would not surprise me to see by name restrictions on these weapons as well once the liberals catch wind of them.

As a matter of fact, maybe we should quit discussing it.

best SHTF gun is the one you have when it does indeed hit.

I rather have a 22 pistol as my SHTF gun than no gun.

The Spinfusor. See, it's technically not listed as an AR. - Oh wait, it has a pistol grip...

There should be an AWB-compliant video game. It would be the worst video game ever.

AR-15: locked
AK47: locked
glock: locked
1911: locked
mp5: locked

Ithica single-shot .22: mastered
