Not very well at all on most ground. Too light to penetrate unless you add a lot of weight, then you'll end up overtaxing the ATV and tearing up your tranny. Not worth it at all.
I agree with the others. HOWEVER, they are used by a LOT by hunters for food plots (measured in acres). If you could get someone with a real tractor and real farm implements (plow or disk) to prepare the ground initially, you could properly maintain that plot with an ATV effectively.
something to think about before you pay 2 to 5000 bucks for a used atv is,around here you can buy a nice older used tractor for maybe 30 to 50 hp for 2 to 3 k.a older david brown, a ford 2000 or 3000. older massey diesel tractors as well.a older 30 to 50 hp diesel tractor will operate on less than 1 gal of diesel per hr if not worked too hard.with a simple 3pt carrier i have a atv that can haul and pull and do way more than a atv.
Agreed with the consensus above. In the same price range as an ATV you can get an old diesel tractor that will do far more work, and has the heavy chassis to endure it. Some of those old tractors are fairly compact too, so they can maneuver a quarter acre plot just fine, but were designed in an era when the average farm was probably a quarter section (160 acres).
An ATV is good for some things, like covering a lot of rough ground quickly, and that is fine if you're doing some fence mending or topical spraying.
They do work good as a broadcast seeder and drag though.
